Hello,

So the kitten has been rescued after being born to a feral cat. He's 4 and half months old now and I am unable to find him a permanent home. I already have a cat and I cannot afford 2. I've been unable to find him a home in this country so I want to transport him elsewhere. I do not live in USA.

How can I put him on a plane if I manage to find him a home abroad? Vaccination, chipping, what else is required? Do companies like DHL or FedEx transport pets?

He is a picky individual when it comes to food and needs a very good and caring home. I've not rescued him for the streets, as a consequence I don't want just anyone to take him. Because people here are mostly dog lovers and most hate cats I'm having a very hard time finding him a home. My best bet is to transport him out of here, but I don't know how.

Any info on transport requirements, methods etc would be appreciated. By the way he does not have a specific home yet, but I'm thinking of talking to a few cat persons.

If anyone is interested feel free to send a Private Message, I'll send pics and info about personality, specific needs etc.

Thanks a lot.

If you can't afford to keep just one extra cat, I don't know how you can afford to transport him to another country.  Perhaps you need to find a way to support a second cat and just keep him.  You might have bettter luck with getting small donations to help meet his needs throughout the year.  When Irescue any cats, I do plan on getting them good homes, but I accept that I may not be able to find the right home and the cats may be with me a long time or even a lifetime.  I wouldnt do it any other way.  That's why I have so many cats right now, rescued 3 mamas with 6 babies each from Death Row at animal control.  I still have two of the mamas and 3 of the babies, and the babies are now 3 years old!  Two of the three I have were actually adopted to a good home, but were returned when the people were forced to sell their house and be moved to company housing in another state that only allowed one animal.  They already had a 10-year-old German Shepherd they had as a puppy and of course they had to keep him.  It was sad because their kids loved these two cats (twin orange boy cats).  I have had several people interested in them over the last two years but all of those adoptions have fallen through.  I've actually stopped advertising them for the past 6 months.

I don't have much information on out of the country transportation. You might want to check with any rescue groups in your area (or even internationally) that do transportation and see what advice they have. A military pet rescue group might also be able to help with the details.

I can understand how you can be looking into out of country transportation and thinking you can afford that cost but not the long term care cost of having a second cost. There could also be other factors with where you live not allowing a second cat. Not wanting a second one. Your cat not accepting the second one. There are a lot of things involved and I am sure you are not asking the question lightly. Don't listen to those who assume that life everywhere is the same and that everyone has the same options. I am personally allergic to cats and no matter how much I might want another I know I may not survive another cat in the house.

Thanks for the replies,

The idea actually is to keep him forever if a good home cannot be found. The problem? By keeping 2 cats I'm already reaching the maximum spending I can afford for pets. As a consequence, I have to cut on some costs like good beds, high quality food (I have to buy the cheapest to stay within budget), treats, toys etc. If I only had one cat he would have a much better life and if the other found a good home he could too. That's my goal currently, if it can be achieved. I feel sorry because I feel like I am restricting both from stuff pets deserve. But of course this allows me to be picky. If one of the cats living a better life means the other one suffering then I am not going to go for that option.

Until now I've had a few offers to adopt him but they all want to keep him outside and only feed him a few times a day. That's like a stray cat basically and I am not going to let him become a stray, or live outside in the winter while his brother enjoys a heated bed. No way! That is why I am seeking for options to send him to a cat loving family, which I have been unable to find here.

I was maybe thinking of sharing the costs with the adopter or something. The cost of transport to USA for example is 80% of my family's monthly income but only 8% of the USA median monthly salary. The cost of transporting to EU is even cheaper. But I don't know how. Even if I found him a family, I wouldn't know how to transport him. Can he be sent through a cargo flight? Or does he have to be with a human in a commercial passenger flight? What are the requirements of putting him on a plane? I have no clue...
