Hi I have a sweet baby kitty she just turned 6 months old and has had round worms since I got her in June. I have given her 2 different kinds of liquid worm medication and that wasn't working so I went to a new vet who gave me drontal tabs she has taken 3 of them one a week for the past 3 weeks and I have another one to give her this coming Wednesday. It seems to help for a week maybe a week and a half and then they ar back. Has anyone ever had this problem? She is growing like a weed and eats her food and drinks her water her coat is soft and shiny and she plays like a little nut bal, so I k n own she is healthy but these stupid worms won't just go away. She never goes outside I clean her litter box everytime she uses it and I do not have any rodents in my apartment. I don't understand why nothing is working I'm starting to get scared because they will not go away. I mean they don't seem to be affecting her but I want them GONE!

If i'm reading this correctly, you are giving her the Drontal EVERY week and she still has the roundworms?  You said you are giving them one a week and it seems to help for a week maybe a week and a half and they are back.  that's so strange.  Is it roundworms that are back, or something else?

Have you talked to your Vet since the return of the worms?  I definitely would, if you haven't.

Honestly, I'm stumped.  Hoping someone else will jump in here, since I'm bumping up this thread.

I need to ask how you know she still has roundworms, then I can help further.

In poop? In vomit?

Are they moving at all or dead?

She had a good sized infestation if you are seeing them in her poop still, she really doesn't need drontal weekly, but she does need pyrantel, which is drontal with praziquantel for tapeworms, which she doesn't have, or at least anymore.

Roundworms can get pretty bad, even going up in to her lungs when tummy is full of them, so just be sure she is treated ongoing, it would be much easier on her system though to just get pyrantel, which is every 2 weeks but weekly won't hurt either.

A bottle can be ordered online without prescription for about 20 bucks.

They are dead when they come out I think. I have to like break her stoll to see them. There are not alot of them but every week down to the day she starts with loose stool but as soon as she takes the pilland it starts working she goes and there are a more worms then she is fine for a week. Iscoop the box 3 to 4 times a day to keep the stool out of it but I'm at a loss I just want her better. Thank you for your advice I am wondering tho what site should I get that medicine you said from. I am very nervous giving her something not from the vet I lost a cat in February from calcium oxalate stones and I can't have anything happen to my new baby I just couldn't go through it again.

Pyrantel is extremely mild, in fact I doubt a cat could ever be overdosed, it is gentle enough for young baby kittens to have, and no script needed, but effectively treats roundworms.

Any site, they are all the same, as long as it's called pyrantel pamoate liquid.

Lasts a very long time, doesn't even taste bad, and will not be giving the added prazaquantel repeatedly to her which is stronger med and she doesn't need it.

Lol, I am not, and you aren't the first to tell me that :)

I am founder of a non profit cat rescue group, including medical adviser, and on the board of directors for the local humane society, as their cat advocate and adviser.

Also big TNR person.
