So I spotted this at my local independent pet store and I was super impressed!

They have two flavors: Chicken and Lamb and Chicken and Venison. I bought both and my cat was okay with the Lamb but devoured the venison.

The best thing? The ingredients. It's 99% meat, 1% Green Lipped Mussel Oil, and 0% grain, gluten, potato, tapioca, peas, and gums!

Ingredients on the Venison:
Chicken, Chicken Heart, Venison Kidney, Venison Liver, Venison Blood, Flaxseed Flakes, New Zealand Green Mussel (Perna Canaliculus), Dried Kelp, Vitamin E Supplement, Zinc Proteinate, Canola Oil, Manganese Proteinate, Thiamine Mononitrate, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Folic Acid,. Water added for processing.

"Feline Natural Premium Canned Cat Food contains all the goodness of our existing product ranges in a convenient, ready to use can. Our cans are FREE from all Gelling Agents, the only thing we add is Natural Fresh New Zealand Water."

And it's cheaper than ZiwiPeak canned :B

Anyone else try this brand? My cat loves it and so do I!

Is there no Taurine listed as an ingredient? That's an essential ingredient needed in a cats diet.
The recipe is 99% meat so I would assume there is enough naturally occurring taurine that they don't need to supplement it. Their frozen and freeze dried raw recipes don't list taurine either. But all foods are AAFCO certified as complete and balanced.

Although, natural taurine is destroyed in the cooking/canning process. This is something to ask the compaby.

Where do you buy this?
OP said it was spotted at a local indepent pet store. This brand is only sold at such stores, not in chain pet stores.

The Feline Natural canned food is a new product so I don't think too many people have tried it yet. http://www.k9natural.co.nz/cat-food-range/canned-cat-food/

Many animal hearts and meat are natural sources of taurine. The guaranteed analysis for the Feline Natural canned foods do list a minimum amount of taurine the product contains. There's a discussion about taurine in comerical raw pet foods here: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/326547/commercial-raw-without-taurine#post_4106739

I just ordered some of this through a local independent store. Our cats love the Feline Natural freeze-dried raw chicken/lamb food so I'm hoping they like the canned version, too!

I was gonna say the same thing as destiny, since it doesn't have added taurine, I wouldn't be comfortable feeding this to my cats as an exclusive meal. I just researched this company for raw & freeze dried & noticed no taurine.

As long as you're aware that's the main thing

There are powdered taurine supplements you can mix into the food to ensure that the cat is getting enough taurine. The Raw and Home Cooked forum likely has more info about this.

The Feline Natural freeze dried raw food is a bit pricey so the canned may be similarly priced, probably around $1.50 for a 6 oz can. It might not be a brand that one can afford to feed exclusively.

It's more than that: the small cans are about $1.79 where I ordered! Canned food for our cats has definitely turned into a "you get what you pay for" sort of thing: most Tiki cans are very full plus the cats seem to like expensive foods the best since they're the meatiest and most satisfying. I'm interested to see if it's worth the money for them, as Tiki is. Lots of cheaper canned foods aren't because they won't finish them!

"Nutritional Info

Minimum Crude Protein: 10.4%
Minimum Crude Fat: 3.3%
Minimum Crude Fibre: 0.03%
Maximum Moisture: 83.4%
Calorie Content ME (kcal/kg): 650kcal/kg
Minimum Taurine: 0.25%"

Although not listed in the ingredients, the wet food does contain taurine.

This is a good quality food that my cat will eat, and he's horrendously picky so that's good enough for me. Dubious to base the entire diet on this food, but definitely safe to include in rotation along with other canned foods.

I fed our cats their first can of the Feline Natural chicken/lamb last night and they loved it. It's a pate, which isn't their usual preference, but it's fairly juicy and not too smooth. They did their usual thing for new foods: sniff and look offended, then return to eat. And they ate it all up, which, even at $1.79 a small can (a bit less, actually, with the bulk discount at our friendly store), makes it a better value than cheaper foods that they don't finish!

I'm not worried about the taurine: as Manx notes, it's obviously there, and lamb heart is the second ingredient.

So, lots of paws up from here.

Hi LisaHE,

I with you on Feline Natural; the food is top quality and to my surprise my brood (3) loves this over Ziwipeak !  I love it because it actually is packed with water  and I don't have to add water as I did with Ziwipeak.

I have learned with one boy having PU surgery, it's better for them in the long run to feed them quality food and pay the price rather than pay the price at the vet's or surgery !  It's Pawsome !

I'm glad to hear your cats like Feline Natural, too, LokiPuss. I couldn't agree more with you about feeding quality food to support health: it's so nice to bring the cats in and hear nice things from the vet about how healthy they look. Fingers crossed that it stays that way for everybody!

is all the food pate or any in gravy?
The chicken/lamb is pate. @missmimz, the other flavors you feed are pates, too, aren't they?

Our cats generally prefer shreds over pates but they love this one: the chicken/lamb is kind of crumbly but not dry (I would call Nature's Variety Instinct pates crumbly and a little dry).

Yes they're all pate. Actually the venison/chicken has the most liquid in it. The other ones have a lot less liquid in them and are more like the chicken/lamb in terms of texture.

This is such a funny coincidence that I found this post...My two kittens just go nuts over the freeze dried Feline Natural chicken/lamb, my pet store only just got the canned pates so we will see if that is something they will like as well.  Have you tried the raw version by chance?  and do you happen to know what the phosphorus and carbohydrate count is?  I tried looking on Tanya's website as well as Dr. Lisa's chart, but this must be a fairly new product. Thanks for any input.

Our cats love the freeze-dried food, too, also chicken/lamb. I don't know the numbers you asked about but the carbs have to be very low because there's really nothing carby in either food. As for phosphorus, you can find the dry matter numbers on this other thread.

So I think I'm finally gonna order the canned Chicken and Lamb online. I looked at Chewy's but its in US dollars, even if I'm ordering from Canada, right? The exchange rate isn't worth it. I found the food on Well.ca as well except the smaller cans. It stills comes out cheaper. Any other Canadian sites I can order Feline Natural from?

Just to confirm. A 6.7 lb cat would need 0.6 of a large 6oz can or 1.4 of the smaller 3oz cans. Does this sound about right? It almost seems too little?

Nah that's not enough food. The chicken/lamb only has about 100 calories in a 6oz can, so a 6.7lb cat would need, according to their feeding guidelines 1.5 cans per day. But if your cat is young and growing they may need closer to 2 6oz cans. The chicken/lamb is also pretty low in protein only like 36% as opposed to the venison/chicken, which is double, so I think the venison/chicken is a better buy, although the calories are only slightly more the venison/chicken is around 110 cal for 6oz.
