After I gave the kids breakfast this morning, Boo hopped up on the kitchen chair. I hung out back here in the compute room, did a few chores, etc. He was fine. When I left the house at 9:30, he was sleeping in the bay window in the living room with his sister.

I just got home and was talking to Mollipop, who met me on the steps coming up to the living room. We walked out to the kitchen and I started to put dry kibble on plates for their lunch. I was doing the kibble thing and I heard this horrible noise. Turned around and it was Boo. He can't walk, he's pretty much dragging himself around....something happened to his rear right leg and he can't put any weight on that leg at all. He can't walk. I hit the phone right away, called down to the vet and we have a 4:00 appt. The only way that I could even get an appointment for him is to do an emergency appt; otherwise the vet is completely booked for the next month! I already called Rick, man, I hate it when something happens to BooBoo and Rick's not home. Boo is so much Rick's cat and if anything happens to him, I don't know what we'll do.

Boo can't walk. It's all he can do to even try to lie down at this point. He is just dragging himself along the floor. I don't know if he fell out of the bay window and landed on that leg or if he tried to jump down and hit wrong. I don't know. It's not pretty. He did eat his lunch and he's very alert. But something happened. I should have never left to go shopping this morning.

Please keep Boo in your thoughts. He turned 20 back in February, so he's not a youngster by any stretch. I can't stop crying. Thank you.

good grief, 20??? That's awesome! I bet he did fall & injure his leg. When one of my cats was a kitten she jumped way too high & injured her leg. Cats are super tough I know but an elderly cat, hmmm. Strange they couldn't get you in any earlier for an emergency.

Sending good thoughts your way,, and Boo's also....

I agree, having to wait for an emergency appointment is not good.

Is there an ER Vet local to you?  I would definitely be on the way there, if there was one. I would not wait until 4pm....

((((hugs))))  and good thoughts, prayers going your way..

Hoping everything goes well at the vet.  My first thought was a stroke but you say he's alert so that's probably not it.  let us know what happens.  Sending good vibes your way 21 - one for each year including this one.

You had no idea that anything would happen and it very well could have happened even if you had not gone to the store. This is not your fault. :hugs:

Poor Boo. I hope he's all right. Sending many hugs and vibes out that it's nothing serious. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::hugs::hugs::hugs:

Feel better soon sweet boy!

Agree with Kat0121. Whatever happened would have happened whether you were there or not. Hopefully it will be nothing more than a twist or strain . Well wishes coming your way from me. Let us know what the vet says

Do let us know what the vet says. You're all in my thoughts :hugs: Also, whatever happens, remember that this was NOT your fault. Really. I mean that. Even if you'd been home, there's no guarantee you'd have been able to stop this happening, or even have found him any sooner. All it takes is one second, and much as we love our firkids, it's impossible to watch them every second, or stop accidents happening :hugs::heart3::hugs:

Thank you all. Just got back from the vet. Essentially, he's old. He's just old and his body is giving out. He's got a lot of arthritis and his muscle tone in his back end is gone. The vet gave him a shot for pain; that will give him about 72 hours of peace. Rick will be home on Tuesday.....he will have to make that decision. Boo did eat supper, but he was lying on the floor and I kept moving his plate around so that he could reach his food. He ate well, still has a good appetite. But unless we get a flat-out miracle in the next day or two, I don't know. He's in kidney failure. His teeth are simply atrocious (he hasn't had a dental since he was 18, because we're so leery of the anesthesia), he has absolutely no muscle tone in his back legs anymore. It's all gone. He is nothing but skin, bones, and tendons.(Ironically, he's gained 10 ounces since he was at the vet back at the beginning of August; I've been giving him all the food he can possibly eat.) I've been trying to talk to Rick for a few months that I thought it was time, but Rick wouldn't hear it. He was hoping that Boo would pass in his sleep, so he wouldn't have to make the call.

I know it's not my fault. I could have been at work and it still would have happened. I could have been right on the couch and it still would have happened. But I still feel horrible.

Thank you for being there.

You've done everything & more for Boo. As you say, your husband will be home tomorrow & you won't have to make any decisions by yourself. I bet anything Boo will feel better tomorrow after his pain shot.

I'm so sorry.  As we all know, making that decision is one of the toughest things in the world to have to do.

I'm so sorry to hear about your Boo. I know what you are going through. I have a 17 year old cat in kidney failure and I'm going to have to make a decision very soon.

I am so sorry.  This is the hardest part with our furbabies and I think we all wish for passing peacefully in their sleep.  Unfortunately that isn't how it usually goes.

Much love to all of you. Hang in there, Boo. Daddy will be home soon. :hugs:

Please give hugs to all the furkids and extra ones for Boo and Ms Pepe. Is she spending time with Boo?

It is a hard time for you right now. I went through the same thing last year with my 17 year old. It's not a decision we ever want to make but we do it because we love them and we don't want to see them in pain. Stay strong and give him lots of love.
