Lol! I was sitting on the couch checking email, & all of a sudden I heard Sammy start playing by himself for the first time. It only lasted a couple of minutes, but was happy to see it. Here he is stretched out after.

This one I took of him last night.

Here he is rolling back & forth

I love it when they roll around! Sammy is beautiful, there is something in his eyes, I don't know what it is, it's just makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. I think he's special. I'm happy for you both ;)

Oh yeah, Sammy is 100% content.  Forever home has been found.

That look alone, lol is the sweetest.  I agree with the others, my heart is melting looking at the expression in those eyes is truly warming.

Thanks you guys! Yea, he's a little sweetie!
He's such a good boy. Yesterday afternoon he was over by my neighbors house, & I saw him, & did that puckered up kissing sound calling him, & he just came running!  I said, "Good boy!"

Yes, for now he is. He was used to being both, & I was only feeding him at first. It has just been two weeks today, that I have been keeping him in at night,  I definitely do that.

The house he came from is just two houses down, & I think he goes back there to hang out with other kitties there. He crosses through the bushes behind my house & crosses another back yard, (Miss Calico's)

to go there, so he is not on a street at all. When he's here, he is either inside, or napping out on the porch. He stays close by. I've also seen him laying on my neighbor's sidewalk.

I have a lot of mixed emotions about it.  Angel started off as outside/ inside, always in at night. Then he got his first UTI, when I was transitioning him, & taking him out w/ a harness & leash. After that, I kept him in.

Then, two times in two years he got cystitis w/ sturvite crystals. He was on a good grain free wet food, so I think it was stress induced. Of course I will never know for certain, but that's what I think, as well as the vet.

As long as Samuel is staying safe, I'd rather him be happy, & pray no major medical issues, getting more exercise outside, etc..  I am STILL paying the care credit from all of that, & will be for a while!

So, as of now, yes he is. I wouldn't just all of a sudden bring him in and never let him out again. That would be very sudden & drastic to him, & I don't think he would be happy.

It also won't stress me out as much, (which in turn is bad for him to pick up on. Which I also think happened w/ Angel sometimes), if I am gone for longer than I usually am during the day, like just talking about a few hours, holidays at my parents (in town) for the day etc... because he has been home alone all day kind of thing, & I would only stay gone for a certain amount of time. Not that I'd be gone for a really long day, but you know what I mean. Of course he would be fed on time etc... but just trying to relay the situation. ...VS/  If Sammy were out for the day, he's probably be just fine, hanging out w/ the other kitties, or relaxing up here on the porch. I wouldn't be constantly feeling guilty because I've left him home alone. Then, home in time for dinner.

When I am able to afford to take him to the vet, I will also be looking into getting him microchipped. In the meanwhile, I will be getting a name tag for him w/ my info on it.

Either way, he is looked after & taken care of much more than he was.

It's a start.

I agree. Sammy is in a much better place then he was before. And trust me, he knows it. From my experience though it is hard for a cat to survive if he crosses streets. Very few cats have the skills to survive that. I have outdoor cats, but they never leave our backyard. My indoor cats never go outside.

I agree, but as I said, I really don't think he crosses any streets.
He pretty much stays between here & two houses down where he came from.
He crosses through one back yard to get there, so no streets are involved. If you look back on pg. 1 of this thread, I posted a picture from my porch, to show someone where the little Calico lives. There are too many trees to see, but there is a house up at the front of the driveway on the left. The back yard is long. He crosses through those bushed & trees, a short cut through to the back yard of that house, & the house on the other side of it is where he came from.
I have also lived here for 17 yrs, & have never seen a kitty that's been run over on our street.
Angel ended up being inside for 4 & 1/2 yrs, so I get it, but W/ Sammy, this is what it is, for now anyway.

Small update, he only stayed out for an hr. & 1/2 tonight, so maybe, he will just weine himself to indoor only. Winter is coming after all. Not that we get snow here in NC, but still.
Maybe it will happen on its own. [emoji]128077[/emoji]

I'm sure he's going to learn to love indoor life eventually. 2 of mine stay in all the time, even though we have a cat door if they want to go out into their enclosure. I wonder if Sammy would adapt to walking on a harness?

I don't know?  It was not a good experience doing that w/ Angel. I tried to take him out twice a day, every day, like you would a dog, since he was used to getting to go out when he wanted. He hated the harness.

I usually got hissed at putting it on, or off, or both! And this coming from an otherwise very sweet boy who rarely ever did that at all. I would take him out for about 20-30 minutes in the morning before work, then, after work, I would try & stay out w/ him for an hour or so, because I felt bad he didn't get to stay out as long as he was used to, or wanted. I think only once did he start up the stairs on his own w/ me. He was never ready to come in, no matter how long I stayed out w/ him. I would usually have to pick him up, to bring him in. Even though he was on the leash. One time I picked him up, & he slapped my face! I took his paw, & said,

"NO, No hit mommy!" marched upstairs, took his harness off & ignored him for a few minutes. It was a disaster. It was stressful for both of us. It was better to just not do it, so I don't know that I want to even try that w/ Samuel. I don't have a lot of time to stay out there w/ him, & here in NC, most months there are a good amount of mosquitoes outside!

He really is a good boy, in staying pretty close by. Today, for the first time, I kept him inside while I went to work, because it was supposed to rain again. I put Pandora radio on for him, on the Enya station, & was gone for 4 hrs. He did well. Didn't seem bothered at all. Let him out when I got home, & he still stayed up on the porch, until I went down to cut some flowers. He followed me down, & stayed by me, even rubbing up behind me.

He sat in the yard for a few minutes, then went back up the stairs on his own, while I was still in the yard! After I came in, he took a short nap on the porch, then after I got out of the shower, I asked him if he wanted to come in, & he did. He is laying on the floor now. I had to tell him it wasn't din, din, time yet. SO, I think he is doing just fine, & it will eventually happen on it's own. He is happy, he stays close by, no more than 2 doors down, if he leaves, or stays on the porch.  Plus, I am lucky that I am not directly on a street, As you can see from the picture on pg.1, I am set back 3 houses, down a driveway, so I as 3 houses away from a neighborhood street. When he goes to the other house, he cuts through he back yards, never coming near a street.

Here's a picture I just took. Sammy taking an after dinner nap.
You can see the driveway I was speaking of & how far back we are, & where he cuts through if he goes to the other house.
He has not left the porch today, except for when he briefly was in the yard w/ me, & came back up before me.

It's been raining & thundering all morning, so I've kept Sammy in. He has been meowing, going back & forth to the door. Only settling down a cpl times, for a few minutes, then back to the door. It's almost noon, & he has started pawing at the door. So, a transition may not be as easy as I thought.
Poor thing. He just keeps pawing at the door.[emoji]128533[/emoji]
I even got da bird out.....no interest!
It's supposed to stop, or clear up a bit in an hour or two, so will let him out then. Really wish I could afford to screen in the porch, & that would only be IF my landlord let me.
It's really slowed down, just drizzling now. I may just let him out. He may just stay on the porch.

You do the best you can. my cats go outside but they are like your cat=they stay in the backyard and we don't live on any roads-we are in a community and everyone drives slow because otherwise they get a ticket from the park manager. I am pleased to see he is going outside and still able to see his old place. Some cats get extremely stressed out at major changes. This is one of them. It is best to wean them down to outside time. My pumps stopped eating when I tried to make her an indoor cat iyears ago. It was a disaster. She hid under the bed all day and night thinking there was something wrong with her. Refused to eat. I gave it 4 days. By the 5th day I said come on Pumps-outtie time! She came running! was the happiest cat! Ran outside and stayed outside until late. So then we just let her out at 8 and she usually comes in at 7 or now at 6 because getting dark earlier. The funniest part=if you try to pet her-she melts into the woods out back. If you leave her alone she stays right on the deck. So now we just let her live out her life on the deck. She lays out in the sun all day. If its raining she goes under the deck but normally comes in for a bit but will meow to go out in a few hours. in the winter time they like to poke around the snow for a few minutes. We don't let them out at night but we try the best we can. It may be a risk but I rather have a happy cat than one who refuses to eat and hides for days. That's my story and it isn't for everyone. I also purchased my area as it's the safest property we could find. we are 2 miles away from busy roads yet there are enough people around that we don't usually have issues with wild animals. The only animals I have seen are deer and birds. the neighbors cat hangs out on the rock wall and my girls usually have a stare down. never fight. just watching each other. When Floey was alive she would chase those kitties out of our yard/woods. last year she chased a grey and white kitty out of our yard....just do the best you can.
