Interesting as gingers are usually male.
I think I heard that only 20% of orange tabbies are female. I don't know if having two of them in the same litter is even more unusual or more likely because of shared genetics. (Does that make sense?) Whatever the odds, I know we got very lucky having these sweet girls become part of our family!

Another thing I read recently is that all gingers are stripey because the chromosome for stripes is the same as the one for ginger.

It is an interesting litter, color-wise. The mama must be a torbie. . .in the pics I see a few bits of red though it's kind of hard to tell, but if she had red kittens she has to be. So she could pass red or dark on to her kittens. So 2 got the red and one got the dark, that part is easy. BUT, the red girls had to have had a red father. But the little dark girl doesn't look like a torbie, which she would be if her father were red. So she must have had a different father. Or she's a hidden tortie. . .

They sure were cute! Did you keep any of them?
