I'm not sure if anyone can answer this but I'm hoping.  I woke up this morning and my cat, Motek, looked up at me, let out a sigh, his eyes fluttered closed and he died.  When I reached over to touch him, he felt like he was already in rigor mortis.  How is that possible?  Was he waiting for me?  I'm so sad.  Thanks for any information you might be able to provide.  Kathy

I believe he was waiting for you, he hung on long enough to look once more upon the face that he loved above all else and then he felt he could leave peacefully and quietly into the next world. He may have been experiencing a seizure that would tighten his muscles, and I know that in the end stages of life the blood slowly stops and the extremities  may lose their warmth and suppleness. It does sound like he passed peacefully and with the one he loved more then anything, you are so fortunate to have been with him and were able to give him the comfort he sought. I pray that all of our little ones could have such a gentle end, it helps to lessen a little of the pain we feel at their passing. Try to not dwell on that end, other then he loved you so much that he waited for you to be with him, try to celebrate having that sweet boy in your life and what he taught you on your life's journey. He would never want you to be sad when remembering him, he only would want the best for the one he loved above all else. Thank you for letting us know of this precious little one, he will be held in the thoughts and prayers of many now at this site. Take care of yourself and know you are not alone in your grief, we will share your burden of pain.  RIP sweet Motek, you will be held in the heart of the one who loves you so much forevermore, send your love along the bond that will never be broken to comfort the one you left behind!

He most certainly waited for you, he wanted to say "goodbye". Last November, Sebastian who was sick was caught in the mini blinds at home, and when I got him out he passed away in my arms, but he waited for me to come home to say goodbye to me and also so he didn't die alone at home. They know our routines, so they both knew if they just could hold out a little longer they would see us, and as horrible as that was at the time I now look back and am grateful that I did get to hold him and say goodbye.

He certainly was waiting to say good bye to you, and to say "thank you, I love you, but I have to go now".....God Bless

I too believe he was waiting for you.  The more stories I hear about the death of a loved kitty and based on my own experience I think if the circumstances are perfect, they do wait for us to help them cross over.

The morning my boy Simon passed, he was sleeping up by my head.  Something woke me up, so checked him, he was still in a similar position as we fell to sleep, he was warm and there was life in his eyes.  I got up then went back to bed.  I held his paw in my hand, fell asleep, and again for no reason at all, I woke up.  He was warm, looking straight at me, although his body was slightly stiff and I could feel a slight heartbeat, I put my ear to his mouth and heard a gurgle and he released his last breath.  I woke my husband, who then said goodbye and pet him.

Then I took him out in the living room and laid with him on my chest and I stroked his tail as I always have, saying, this is my tail, this is my tail, until his paws turned white.  Thinking back I swear he tried to twitch his tail.

I was told by a nurse of 35+ years, that just because the heart stops, she believes that the brain is still processes information.

When my dad died, it took us 35 minutes to get to the hospital, we got there an hour after his time of death was called.  He was in a white body bag, zipped down with a blanket over him, and his eyes had gauze taped over them.  I went in the room with my husband, took the tape off his eyes.  His eyes were open and a crystal blue, it's as if he never had problems with his eyes, I then whispered into his ears  what a great dad he was and even though we fought big, our love was bigger.  I looked straight into his eyes and told him I love him and to say hello to mom and my sister.  It was then two big tears rolled down his cheeks.  I have no doubt he waited for me to be there with him to cross over and to hear my last thoughts.  I stayed with him for over an hour holding his hand, until his eyes showed no life and the warmth was gone.

I was raised Catholic, and question all religion, I don't know the answers as no one does.  BUT, I personally like to believe that the love we share and bonds we hold, transcend into something so beautiful, there are no words to describe it.

It's just something that helps me in times of loss.

I am very sorry you lost your sweet boy Motek.  Warmest regards, Hope
