So I've been trying to figure out a time frame of when my cat will have her kittens so I can try to be home with her! She's been overly friendly the last day or two (even with my oldest son, they're generally quite rough/playful with each other or ignore one another) I took her temp it was 98.7 about an hour ago. However she hasn't bothered to nest at all, she hates the box my husband did up for her lol. She's stopped eating jut over the past probably 4 or 5 hours.. so I'm thinking maybe it'll be soon?

Possibly. It's hard to say from a description. Sometimes cats have pre-labor before the real thing. Temperature is not a good indicator of labor. It does sound like she's close. Any clue when she mated?

Well she ended up having her kittens! :) Two so far. Problem though, the second kitten is out trying to nurse but still attached to the placenta which is still inside mom.. been about an hour like this. I've read things that say to cut the umbilical cord but Im confident enough to do so. Time to make a vet call? Or should I leave her a bit longer?

You can wait. The placenta will be expelled soon, and mom will chew the cord.

Otherwise, if it goes awhile, just tie a piece of thread or dental floss around the cord and pinch it off with your finger. It's easy and safer than leaving baby attached. If mom starts to move around, and it pulls on the cord, it could be fatal to the kitten.

That's what I figured! She was trying to move around with kitten attached! She had another kitten while the other was still attached andabout 30 mins later she finally got kitten #2 detached. Not sure if the placenta came out though. She's napping now and nursing so all in all we've had a successful birth! Although I feel like she might still have another in there. Thanks for your help!

One more question when would I be able to move them she ended up running to my bathroom and having them in he middle of the floor which is ice cold! I don't imagine that's to good for them. Plus it's a high traffic area as she's right in front of the toilet lol

Congrats on your kittens! I'm sure it came out if she had another kitten. You just may not have seen it

I agree that the placenta probably came out. You can go ahead and gently move the kittens into the nest. Mom should follow!

Keep us posted!

Thanks again! We have a happy mama and kittens all snuggled up in their nest! Like I said I think she may have another, but everyone's content for the moment!

Aww, sweet picture of the little family.  So sorry to read about the still birth.  I am sorry, I am not experienced enough to give advice about this, but hang in there, one of our experts will advise how to go about removing the lost kitten.  I imagine you would pick it up, let hold it in front of mom so that she knows you are taking it, place in a box and bury in the backyard.  That would be my guess.  Like I said, some one else will chime in.

It's literally one of the saddest things I think I've ever watched. She moved out of the nest as she started having him, cleaned him all up on the floor then moved him into the nest with the other kittens.. On a brighter note we now have another kitten! I honestly didn't think she'd have this many she's only a small cat!

Thanks! I'm pretty excited about it, hubby not so much lol. I've made him take care of our human children all day so I could be a 'birthing coach' for my princess lol.

Aww, leave the stillborn there for awhile so mom realizes he's not alive, then remove and bury.

It sounds like she may be done. How many live kittens are there now?

She sounds like a great mama kitty! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

I was surprised this morning to see my cats three day old kittens covered in fleas, my cat hasn't been outside since she got pregnant and we never seen any traces of fleas. Now my question is what do I do?! I have flea treatment which I know I can't use on kittens but can I use it on mama? It's topical just not sure if it's safe for kittens and how do I get them off the kittens

Which topical treatment do you have?

I recommend Advantage II for mom. It's safe and will kill the fleas on the kittens too. They are too small for a dose yet themselves, but can be flea combed.

Many over-the-counter products are dangerous and will burn a cat, or are ineffective. Please avoid Hartz and Sergeants products.
