So, Ruby stopped eating for 5 days, and now with the help of catnip (she stopped catnip 3 days ago) she is eating again. This morning i woke up to find that she had vomited (it was straw colored) and had horrible diarrhea. What is wrong with her? Please help! Could it have been because I have been switching around her food flavors so that she won't get bored of it?

Hey there,

I am not an expert, but have taken care of many kittens and cats with a rescue group...So all i can provide you is personal experience.

I'm sorry to hear that your baby is not doing well. Sounds like she is not feeling well, how long has this been going on? Usually, they tend to improve after a couple days.

I have always heard that pumpkin puree helps with tummy troubles like diarrhea, this has always helped us with kitty's who were rescued at stores who ate a lot of garbage (i know sad) and would have diarrhea.

See link:

However, with situations like these, It is always best to consult a expert/veterinarian.

Best of luck and a speedy recovery to your Ruby.

Switching around DRY foods can cause digestive issues, or may have caused the loss of appetite, but probably not the vomiting.  THAT may be from the long period of not eating.  If she truly went 5 entire days of not eating anything, or not eating much, she may be in serious trouble and need a Vet's intervention.  Housecats who are used to eating and suddenly are deprived (for whatever reason) can develop Hepatic Lipidosis within just a few days, and believe me, it can kill them.  I know because I lost a cat to it.  Look at her gums...are they turning yellow?  That's one of the signs, other than refusal to eat and obviously the things that go along with that.

Please get her in to see a Vet as quickly as possible.
