I was sent a 6 week old full or part bred Abyssinian female kitten via my vet's Rescue Kittens/Cats cage. My husband and I went there to pick up the red tabby we'd seen two days ago and asked them to hold for us till we had adoption fee in cash. We had lost two much loved red tabbys a couple of years ago and wanted another one. But when we got there the red tabby was gone, they'd given him to someone else in spite of our agreement. We looked at all the kittens in the big cages but he just wasn't there. But i saw a little kitten with an Aby - looking coat. I didn't even let myself feel anything since I knew my husband was set on a red tabby. Even though I had loved my male Abyssinian pure breed so much and still mourn him, since his death over 25 years ago. We went home empty handed.

But about an hour later my husband said "there's no red tabby there but there *is* a part Abyssinian kitten they're now. I was overjoyed and so thankful for his willingness to let me have the Aby instead of the red tabby we'd both wanted so long.

We went and got her. The vets office staff had already named her Abby, because she was so obviously at least part Aby. She had the full exact Aby coat except for having some mackeral tabby stripes on her back legs and tail. As she's grown she looks more and more like a full pure bred Aby. The body type and shape, the head and ears size and shape, the eye shape and facial markings. But most of all, she *acts* Abyssinian. She loves to climb ; she *has* to climb. She's very athletic. She's careful / cautious about new things but not scared of anything. I'll try to upload a few photos to show her body and head and coat.

I am infatuated with her. I love her in a way I've never loved a kitten before. Of course I've had a few very special cats before who will always be with me in my heart. But what i feel toward her is such overwhelming love it's like she's my own child.

When they handed first handed her to me from the cage, i held her up and looked at her full face. And she kissed me - in the lips. Of course not like a human kiss / smack. But she put her head forward and bumped her lips against my lips for just a second. That started our love affair. She still kisses, little bumps to my mouth, or with my husband , to his nose. Tiny very gentle bites to the tip of our noses. And still rarely now, short little bumps to my lips with hers. She's made the connection and understands the concept that lip touching between two beings means "I love you" or is a sign of close affection.

I've written too much. I always do that, get started
and then run on.

I'm from the very far south of Alabama, at the beach. I have four cats now. An 11-12 years female bobtail with gray tabby markings, Rebecca. Next, a black female about 4-5 years old, Esme. (she was my special kitty and head of the hierarchy until I got the new kitten. She hates the kitten passionately. Then Jack, who's got some Maine Coon in him, gray and long fuzzy coat. That was all until the kitten. Her name is Lynne. I didn't give her a name until she was about 3 months old. No name was perfectly right for her. Finally I named her Lynne because I love her so much that I wanted to give her my own name. (Lynne is my middle name.)

Sheesh, I'm still writing. I'll stop and try to post pictures.

Nice to meet you all.

This is Lynne doing what she does best - looking lovable. She got in herself. I hate having cats on my kitchen counter but she hasn't learned yet. Actually none of them have. I'm a sucker.

Welcome to the Catsite DagnyT :wavey:

Great to hear that you are adopting the cats from the shelter. And you never give up tho the red tabby is taken.

And all your kitties are very nice and cute. Do post more Photos of them! ;)
