Hiya I am new here. I have a 1 year old cat who is the love of mine and my children's life x I rescued a kitten a couple of days ago he is about 16 weeks very stupidly I took a woman at her word that he was a she it was only when I went to the vet today that I was told that it was in fact a little boy x this is a massive shock as I did not even check. (I know that is my own fault :( ) my concern is my female has not been done as she is 110% a indoor cat. She won't even look out of the window. What is the chance that a 16 week old kitten could get my girl pregnant? He is booked in to have the snip next week. Please any advice would be good x I feel so awful right now :( I have not seen him trying to mount her or anything but I am so worried
Tracie x

Don't worry. Males aren't sexually mature until 5 months at the earliest but sometimes not until as late as 8 months. In general males only go after females who are in heat so if she's not in heat then even if he was mature he wouldn't be interested.

That said, have you considered getting your female spayed? There are health benefits such as reduced cancer risk. Also, you wouldn't have to worry about her getting anxious while in heat and escaping only to come back pregnant.

YAY! It really is better for both of them to be fixed. They are very lucky kitties to have someone who obviously cares so much for them. I wish all cats were so fortunate! If you need help finding low cost spay/neuter services near you, let us know the area you live in and we'll help you look!

Welcome to TCS! We're glad you found us! :wavey:

Feel free to start a thread in out New Cats on the Block forum! We love to see pictures of the new additions to our very large feline family! :heart4:

This is great! She will be much happier and healthier.

Can you have her spayed soon? My concern is that males can still be fertile for up to a month after being neutered, and I'm sure you don't want any surprises.
