Cardboard boxes, coffee cans or cardboard tubes and duct tape.  My kittens got bored after a few minutes with all the toys too.  So I got a bunch of card board boxes and cut the bottoms off coffee cans, then duct taped the cans edges real good so it wouldn't cut them and duct taped several together end to end to make a tunnel.  I cut windows in the card board and even placed a smaller box inside a larger one and duct taped it down.  took a coffee can and traced the end and cut the circle in 2 of the boxes then duct taped the "tunnels" to the boxes.  I had a long box that I fit in larger box and attached to the larger build.  It was a maze that they played in for almost 2 days LOL.  All I have to do is redesign it and make little holes that I stick toys in that they have to work on getting out about every 2-3 days.  Time consuming but they have a blast!

thank you:) I will.

Because I have to work from 10-7, sometimes longer. So I don't want him to sleep all day long lol
Um, he'll probably still spend most of the day sleeping, you know.  Cats need something like 16 hours of sleep per day, and many cats seem to like getting it out of the way during the day time so they can prowl at night.  (Or perform cat opera at 4 a.m. for your amusement and amazement.)  All the same, best to have plenty of solo toys available for use while you're sleeping; it may help to forestall the opera....

I bought this

the cats tore some of the feathers off but they didn't eat them. They play with it but not as much as they used to.

I also have the little mice that squeak, I got those at walmart but try them out first because some don't squeak. Also the little mouse in a ball that rolls, squeaks & lights up!

rickycheung,

These are January's favorite toys

Here he is pouncing on the ball, his no1 favorite

His other favorites are cardboard box, paper bag, tunnel, squeaky squirrel from Amazon and twined up paper bag handles

Next to him under his cat tree are standby toys. He'll only play with them when his favorite ball goes missing

Most of the toys are diy or free like cardboard boxes ......

My cat also loves feathers, and I understand the concern about string. How about a wire wand? My cat plays with hers without me and no worry about strangulation. This is the specific one she has:  or you can buy a whole pack of toys including the wand for a few dollars more:

I leave a superball in the bathtub....other toys too. They enjoy bouncing off the walls with the superball doing its own thing.
Most of the toys will stay in the tub...until they learn to carry them OUT of the tub like Stormy... and lose them[emoji]128521[/emoji]. Its alot of fun to watch! Of course fresh catnip gets priority over toys....

rickycheung,

Leave a few ping pong balls at home. This will make the cat chase it without someone playing with him as he can roll and chase along the floor and it bounces off walls. So its almost a cat activated toy.

Agreed. Ping pong balls are great. My kitties love them. They're light so even my 6 week olds play with them.

The only problem with toys like balls is that they can get left in the hallway for a human to step on in the middle of the night, going to the bathroom with your eyes closed or unfocused.  You may want to place them in the bathtub at night.  Safe for humans and still fun for cats.

By the way, I saw glow in the dark ping pong balls at the grocery store the other day.  Not that cats really need extra light to play at night...

One of my kitten's favourite toys is a big paper bag.
Not just kittens.  Jasmine adores paper grocery bags.  They make great kitty forts, they make krinkly sounds when jumped on, her toys hide in them, paper bags are right up there with boxes.
