This beautiful girl, Sophie, showed up on our doorstep in July.  There is a feral colony nearby and I feel like someone had dumped her there.  Didn't take her long to build up her trust in us though so we moved her inside quickly.  All she wanted was to give and receive love.  Such a sweet girl.  The vet estimated her to be about 2 years old so we were looking forward to many years with this wonderful girl.

Unfortunately cancer showed up soon after we brought her inside and it spread quickly.  It took many visits and many tests with the vet as there were other more likely possibilities based on her symptoms.  She was patient and loving through it all. We had to let her go the evening of Sunday September 11, 2016.  She'll be missed.  She was loved!

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss of beautiful Sophie. Sophie passed knowing she was loved and that is such a gift. She knew she was being cared for by someone she trusted. Sophie is at rest and no longer in pain. Thank you for showing her how loved she was.

I'm so sorry for your loss. She was lovely. Is it my imagination - did she have a black tail or is that a friend of hers hiding most of his/herself behind her?

I agree with @hellomisskitty. Sophie passed away knowing that she was loved and wanted. She was part of a family. Sometimes they come to us so we can help them transition having known love and care. I know it;s awful but you really did the kindest thing possible. You helped her cross the bridge gently and lovingly. What you did for her was the ultimate act of friendship. :hugs:

She crossed over in a heartbeat and she is now at peace. She is whole and healthy again. There is no illness or pain. She will never forget you and she will love you forever. Hold all your memories of her close to your heart as this is what she will be doing with her memories of you and she will do this until you meet again one day. :hugs:

So sorry for the loss of Sophie. How cruel life is that as soon as she found love she was sickened by cancer.

Thank you everyone for your kind comments.  It's been a difficult day and having this opportunity to speak about her has helped.  Amazing how fast you can fall in love with such a loving girl and I think it hurts more because she was so young.

It does. My kitten died in July at 10 months old & the pain is still unbearable.

Yes. They capture your heart in seconds and they hold it forever. She took a piece of yours and left you a piece of hers to take it's place. :rbheart:

I'm so sorry for your loss.  You were a great comfort to Sophie, fate has a way of finding us.  She was with you for a reason and you were there when she needed a friend.  RIP sweet girl.

She so desperately needed someone to love her when she needed it the most, and you were there. For that you will be blessed for your kindness, and she will  love you for eternity so very much. It breaks my heart that she found someone to love and care for her and then she had to go. She was in your life for a short while, but enriched it immensely, it was meant to be, let the happier memories of that sweet girl comfort you as you grieve for the loss of one so patient and loving.  She would never want the one that  saved her from a cold, uncaring world be so sad at her passing,  celebrate the joy of knowing that little girl at all. It would have been tragic to never have had her in your life. The pain is great at the loss, but you gained so much more for helping her in her time of need. Thank you for letting us know of this wonderful girl, she deserves to be mourned by many and now she will be. Take care, and let us share your pain so that it will be more bearable. RIP beautiful Sophie, the world became a darker place with your passing, but the pure light that shines forth from your beautiful star will bring your love to those you love so much!

She was white with a black tail and a black spot on her back just before her tail. I thought she was absolutely beautiful!

How unique! She was a beauty for sure with a really sweet face. When you are feeling up to it, I would love to see more pictures if you have any.

I can't say it any better than some people did in the beautiful posts above, you were there with kindness and compassion and she had a touch of love at the end. So very sad as I can tell you were very much in love with her and were looking forward to pouring on the love for years to come, but for some reason it wasn't meant to be. As your heart heals, and as a tribute to her, I will tell you some words of wisdom that were told to me when I wanted to adopt one from a shelter but they said I had too many cats "perhaps one will come along that needs help more than this one", and it did come true for me with Sylvester, so perhaps in time you can love another who is in need of your help.

God Bless, rest in peace little Sophie and know that you WERE LOVED!!!

I wish I had more.  Only one other and it's almost the same but she has her eyes closed and looks happy.  She went down so quickly after coming inside so I didn't want to take any pictures of her looking like that.  Kept hoping of course that she'd get better.

She was a very beautiful little girl. I understand. It's better to hold onto the memories of her being healthier. She will live forever in your heart and your memories and you in hers. :hugs:

I have a Sophie too so this one speaks very loudly to me. :sigh:

Thank you all so much.  I still haven't been able to bring myself to call the vet to let them know.  I can type but still hard to speak the words.  Please know that you've all helped me in dealing with this.
