I have a kitten called Basil who is around 4-5 months old.

He came from a shelter where he was brought in as a stray with his mother, no brothers or sisters. Because he was so young when we got him (around 7 weeks) he's always been a very clingy kitten, he hated being alone and would cry if no one was with him.
So when we got my maine coon kitten, Toby, who is about a month older than Basil, he calmed down a lot because he now had another cat to play with and so spent less time wandering around the house alone crying.

But in the last week or so, his crying has returned out of the blue. Both my cats will be indoor/outdoor in about a month when they're neutered, but right now they're having to be mainly indoor only with only short trips into the garden under strict supervision, which they seem to relish, but they can't go off on their own yet.
Basil has been crying the last few days whenever you aren't directly making contact with him. And it's that loud sorrowful meowing that Im sure most of you know from trips to the vet! He sounds really distressed. If Toby is with him, if Im playing with him, or if he's out in the garden, he doesn't make a peep.

Im just wondering why it's come on suddenly like this. I've checked him all over and he's not in pain. Do you think he could be bored? He has toys and another kitten to play with, and I play with him, but I can't think of any other reason why he would be wandering about. If it IS boredom, then that is easily sorted when he can go out so it's not a problem. But I just wanted to check it wasn't a sign of something else.

Although you have checked him all over, I would suggest to play it safe that you have a vet check him as well. Cats are very adept at hiding pain, and it is the professionals that can help to narrow it down and find it.

I have a cat named Taylor who is notorious for whining. He will walk into the bathroom and sit on the counter crying til someone comes in and carries him out, it is almost as if he gets lost (I swear he does!) I think your situation is different though, so good luck finding out what is going on!

I very much agree!!!It could be parasites or some other medical
condition or it could simply be that your kitten haspretty well
adopted you and is very possessive. Since the kitten is so young,
it is probably possessisive of its meowmy and doesn't want to share.
Whatever the situation might be, for peace of mind, a vet would
definately be in order ASAP!--persia
