My 10 year old kitty has been dealing ( very well) with arthritis in both his back knees. He is on cosequin which has worked wonders for him. He runs and plays , I call him my little pony because of the galloping around the house.

Lately he's been playing a lot more than usual as we have a new kitten which has really enriched his life.

Recently I've noticed him stumble once or twice when jumping down, I would describe it like the footing in his back legs was unstable. He has never fallen. Still jumps , runs , etc.

I am assuming this is related to or caused by the arthritis. Would you agree?

Yes, it might be related to his arthritis. Especially, if he seems a little stiff, when first getting up.

Or he might have stretched a muscle in playing with his new kitten. Or tweaked his back, slightly.

Does he seem like only his back legs are affected, or does he stumble over his front legs, too?

And does he ever miss when jumping up?

Can you check his back paws, and make sure that his claws have not overgrown into his paw pads.

It sometimes happens in older cats, though your guy is not that old.
