Hello out There. I'm Jonathan, proud daddy of five fur-babies, each one a legend on its own. Well, my concern here is my last kid. His name is Moses, or Momo for short. He was saved on a rainy day, near a river. You can guess how he got his name, even though he could have been called Cheeky or Nosey.
So, here it goes. Momo was rescued on May, 1st this year. He was around two or three weeks old (his eyes were still blue).
Since then, he has been having some on and off times.
What I call on times is simple. He feels great, plays a lot, and always hugs me and my wife. Off times, on the other hand, are those times when he is sick, which is the case right now.
Since the two last week, he has been oozing black poop. And his anus is swollen. He has been to the vet. And was given some medicine for five days. But to no avail. He is still in the same condition, even though there has been some better signs.
Lately, his food (he and the four other kitties share different kinds of food) disappeared from the market. So, I have been giving him what is at hand.
Otherwise, he has never been vaccinated nor dewormed. I plan to start the latter as soon as my grown-ups are in a better shape as they have just been neutered, i.e, in three days at most.
Can anyone tell me what is happening to my baby? The vet didn't say anything, whether it was serious or not. Any help is welcome.

If the vet  isn't giving you any asnwers about why your cat is having liquid black poop, then seek out another vet and be sure to ask questions and express your concerns. Liquid black poop is not normal.

What brand of cat food were you feeding before it "disappeared from the market"? Are you in the US?

I'm from Mauritius. I used to give him rabbit terrine or chicken terrine. But this is not available in Mauritius anymore. I don't think it's his food. I personally think it has to do with worms. But there is a protrusion in his anus. This is what is making me wonder.

I am a human doctor, not a cat doctor and any advice that I give you about your cat should be checked with your vet.  Having said this, black faeces are often a sign of bleeding in the upper bowel in humans and this is called melaena after the Greek word for black Melanos.

The blood is altered by the digestive juices changing red blood to black and the faeces are often sticky as well as black  Whatever, you should go to your vet again as the black faeces have not ceased.

With best wishes,

Geoffrey

Well. Here's a small update. My little Momo is getting better, even though there seems to be a long way to go. Thanks all for your help and concern.

Did you go to the vet or do you think he's getting better on his own?

We gave him medication against worms and his poo got lighter in colour. Now, if there's no change for the better, he's going to another vet for sure.

To all of you, Momo is doing great. He's better, but we have to watch his nutrition. No rice, no bread, no carbs at all. At least for some time. Thanks again to the doctor who advised that black poop is not normal, and to everyone who tried help.
We shall be forever grateful.
My kids and me send all our love.
