Is mom not trying to nurse at all? Or is she trying and her milk just hasn't come in? I think it is important to stay calm around them because the mom can feel your stress. Did she only end up having the two kittens then? What time is it where you live?

She's trying. Whenever they try to nurse she lies on her back or side to give them space, but they either can't nurse for some reason or her milk hasn't come in. I didn't want to squeeze her nipples and hurt her so I'm just leaving that to the vet. I tried leading them to the nipples many times.

They are only two kittens so far, I'm not experienced so I don't know if there can be any left. She doesn't seem to be paying a lot of attention to them though. It's 8:22 AM right now. The first kitten came out about 12 hours ago.

I think they're nursing, but I can feel her pushing a bit? It isn't as urgent as when she was giving birth and neither is her breathing (though it is fast) but I feel like I saw her push. Would it be okay to take her to the vet if I think she's pushing? Because even though they are nursing I don't see any milk, and I want to see if we harmed the one that was stuck in any way.

There's a third one! Umbilical cord still inside her. I don't know how long ago she birthed it but it felt like I was annoying her so I'm gonna check on her every 5 minutes.

How do the other two seem to be doing? Were you able to syringe feed the, at all? Or rub honey on the weak ones gums?

Hi again!

There are now four kittens. I took her to the vet, he said there are no more kittens. But she does have some sort of an infection that's causing her high temperature which he gave her shots for, and he gave me meds to give her for the next ten days. Other than that, he says they're all healthy. Oh and we got her stomach shaved so that they can reach her nipples well. I made sure all of them nursed on the way to the vet and back, and when I got back. Now they are sleeping and Cheetos is taking a break. She's not eating though, not from what I can see. We gave her boiled chicken, she doesn't seem to want it. I think she's drinking water, though. I hope she eats by the end of the day or I'll have to get creative in feeding her. She's still breathing heavily and I'm guessing her little house was too hot for her so she got out of it. Is it normal for her to still be panting? Doctor said there are no more babies but there could be more stuff coming out of her, like wastes being thrown out of her body or something? There are words in my language that can't really be accurately translated to English so I'm sorry for being vague. [emoji]128514[/emoji]

I'm worried about Cheetos and I hope she's gonna be okay. [emoji]128542[/emoji]

Thanks for filling us in [emoji]128515[/emoji][emoji]128515[/emoji][emoji]128515[/emoji]. I'm sure she'll be fine. I know when I gave birth, food was definitely second to sleep lol.

I am delighted to hear that all have survived and appear well. Now there are 4 kittens!

Her milk is coming in! This is good.

Mom's heavy breathing is from after-birthing pains. It is the uterus contracting and going back to its regular size. It feels like a labor contraction. These can go on and off for about 2-3 days.

Give Cheetos a dish of the kitten formula to drink. It helps with the pains. Also give her a dish a day for extra calcium that she needs while nursing.

She will have discharges from her lady parts for 7-10 days while she is healing from the pregnancy and birth. That is what the vet meant.

Cheetos is not hungry because she ate the placentas. She will eat food again soon. Do you have wet cat food in addition to the boiled chicken?

I hope you are feeling a bit better yourself now! You handled this very well! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Actually, back when I told you her milk came in I was wrong. The kittens were trying to suck on her nipples but apparently her milk has not come in. She kept meowing for me and leading me to her kittens, and once she meowed for me and sat on my lap. Her mammary glands had gotten more swollen, I think she was uncomfortable. However she kept sitting in front of me to gently massage her nipples and glands and I'd almost given up when milk finally came in! I don't think she understood anything other than her discomfort had lessened, so instead of going to feed her babies she followed me and exposed her nipples for me again. I massaged her again just to make sure the milk fully comes in and the last time I saw her she was nursing two while the other two slept! [emoji]128522[/emoji] There's a runt so I'll keep supplementing them all anyway. I fed them 3 ml each of kmr because I was scared to overfeed hehe.

Yes, I gave her wet canned food but she ate half her plate only. I don't think she's hungry because they haven't nursed a lot and as you said @sarthur2 she ate the placentas (I didn't see her do it but the vet said there isn't anything in there except for some things her body might get rid of so she probably did it).

I'll give her some kmr now. Hope it all turns out well. She's not being next to them too much though. She sits with them for a while then goes out of the kitty house and watches them or walks around.

Thank you sooo much for all the tremendous help you've given!

So glad to hear this update. Can you weigh the kittens every day so you know how much to supplement?

Whew! Good thinking on your part to massage her nipples to help the milk come in! [emoji]128077[/emoji]

Mom cat does not have to stay with her kittens all the time, but enough to nurse every couple of hours for 20-30 minutes.

I am so glad your mom is letting you supplement the kittens now. [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Can you weigh them? It would be helpful to know weights. The runt in particular.

Please post a picture of the kittens when you get the chance.

You are doing an awesome job! [emoji]128062[/emoji]

Thank you!

She seems to sit with them then come and meow for me to follow her there. She wants me to help her get them to nurse, they're a naughty bunch and push a lot.

Yes, as I said mom has episodes. Once they're over everything is fine.

I didn't find a scale from the store I went to, I'm going to see if I can find one tomorrow somewhere else. I paid all my money for treating Cheetos' infection and getting her stomach and behind shaved so I hope it isn't expensive. [emoji]128514[/emoji]

Whenever I put one of them on a nipple (countless times) or massage her glands to stimulate the milk so they'd realize the nipple is there, they just shake me off and keep going upwards on Cheetos, as if she's gonna nurse them from her back or butt.

I supplemented them only once today because I skipped school and had a lot of catching up to do so I didn't have much time. I'll do it again tomorrow. Should I do it more than once a day? Now that her milk came in her only comfort seems to be in nursing them. The white one keeps pushing the others but it never settles on a nipple so I haven't seen it nurse. Then again, I only looked a few times because I didn't want her to get used to me being there, as half the day I'm not even home.

I've seen the "runt" nurse. He never pushes the others and always gets pushed but he seems tofind the spot that the other kittens are far from and push his head into her and nurse. He does look a bit smaller than the others though. Does that still count as a runt?

I took pictures but they were very unclear because they all have colors that she has so they kinda blend into her, I'll try again when I wake up!

Also, good news. The stray kitten was adopted today. [emoji]128522[/emoji]

It's 12:42 AM and I haven't slept for two days. I have my head on the pillow now and it is heaven. Also, may I say that I never, ever want to go through watching cat labor again because I've been feeling sick ever since I saw all that blood and pain. The smell of blood made me want to vomit all day and gave me a horrible stomachache. I retire. I have no idea how doctors do this. [emoji]128514[/emoji]

Thank you so much!

Yes, thank god. I was only going to ask about her milk and get her shaved but it turned out she had an infection. I'm so grateful.
