One of the cats brought in a big fat mouse today, freaking me out since the poor thing kept getting away from him. Lots of screaming - must have been me! I threw the front and back doors open and went after the cat with a hand held vacuum. None of them like the sound of it, and I was lucky enough that he ran out the front door with it in his mouth. I never like to see any living thing suffer but I wasn't brave enough to try and deal with it any other way. I figured outside, the mouse would have a shot.

Off kilter as to my routine since my mother is in the hospital (full time caregiver.) Hard to believe but because I find it tough to switch gears, I get even less done than usual. Oh well.

Better than what my cat did....we were having carpet issues and while the carpet was pulled up, one apparently tried to slip under the baseboard in the gap (where the quarter round used to cover it) and was stuck. All we could see was a headless body upside down wiggling it's legs and it's tail.  I ran and grabbed one cat, he looked at it, looked at us, and walked off--like "it's a mouse, can't you deal with that? I'm retired now, remember?"  And he used to leave us 4-5 bodies every morning for us to find and praise him for.

Grabbed the other cat, showed it to him, he swatted it, and went to his food bowl.  Some help they both were.

Hubby sucked it up with the Shop-Vac.  I'll never, EVER forget that FOOOMP!! sound it made.

I never would have had the wits about me to grab a hand-held.  I would have helplessly watch the cat/mouse game from the top of furniture!

When we lived in NY, we used to refer to the lawn as "The Killing Fields" (not very funny, really). I'll never forget all the adults in the house trying to save a chipmunk from certain death (we succeeded.) Everybody was running all over the lawn.

It's terrible, but it's their nature. Now that we're in Las Vegas, the lizard population is taking a beating.

I really lucked out with the mouse thing. They hate the sound of the hand held vacuum so I grabbed it to force him out. I really didn't think it would work, but it did! That makes for the only time.

I hate when they drag in the huge roaches we have here. Thank God they don't move as fast as the ones in NYC, or I'd really lose it. Those suckers are tough, extremely ugly and very fast.

Cheers,

Tarara

I may be morbid, but yes, I do find that funny LOL!

I lived in Dallas for a bit, and I know exactly about the big roaches you are talking about--they were everywhere out there.  Some people called them palmetto bugs, but I think they were really a type of roach.

I'm fed up disposing of the lizards my outside ladies are enjoying hunting this year.  It must be a booming year for the lizard population.  There was one left on the porch upside down with one of his little feet over his heart area....like he dropped dead from fright.  I told my hubby they killed the Geico gecko!

I found a TINY baby lizard in my kitchen on Saturday night. The poor little thing was no more than an inch long. He was adorable. Guess who else was in the kitchen at the time? Yup. All 3 kids. Thankfully, they didn't see him before I did. The lizards aren't very fast when they are that tiny. Someone would have gotten him for sure. I managed to scoop him up, put him in a box and take him outside where I let him go. Fortunately, lizards don't get in very often and when they do, I am able to take them back outside before anything bad happens.

I had a lizard run loose in my house for 3 days one time, one must have slipped in as a door opened.  We all tried to catch it and finally gave up it was so fast!  It was a full grown one though, and on the 3rd day I found it dead, they had apparently exhausted it and got tired of playing with it.  Gave me the creepies to go to sleep thinking it might crawl on me!

Poor Thing :( I have both cats and pet rats, but my cats are well trained with the ratties. Unfortunately it's just their instincts as sad as it is :(

@Meowsaremusic   I have had friends who had rats as pets and they were great.  They made fantastic, intelligent, easy to care for pets for their children.  They chose a rat because their apartment contract said no dogs or cats, but small animals were permitted.  I think they made a wonderful choice after meeting them!

Yes they are AMAZING pets! They're the coolest little guys. And nicer than my cats... they're like dogs, they always want your attention. Unlike my cats, who totally just abandon me sometimes hahaha!
