I recently found a new vet, she gave my baby Revolution, topical antibiotics n told me to give her Chlorpheniramine. I'm nervous about giving it to her bc we still do not know what she is actually allergic to. The vet said she "thinks" it's a food allergy. But when this first happened I changed her food. My other cats also scratch, they don't have fleas, but cream is just worse. My boyfriend uses baby powder ALOT N I can't help but wonder if it's that... any thoughts or advise would be very helpful

Yes. I've given it to my cat before with no problems. :). It does make her sleepier though.

sleepy as it does in humans.. did you give the full dose or cut it down quite a bit.. I know the Vet should prescribe the amount to be given.

Thank u for responding! Yes she said to give her half of the 4mg. I think I may do a quarter to start. I just don't like giving my baby human meds, especially bc she doesn't feel good

I having been using it for 20 yrs! if battling URI, I start with 1/4 of 4mg tablet every 24 hrs for 3 days, then go to every other day. On a regular basis, I put it in all my cats canned food daily. It dries out their eyes and sinus. If they sneeze and you see some blood, cut back, they are getting too dried up. They get Chlorapheniramine and l-lysine daily. It really helps. I have sworn by both of those for 20 yrs now. It kills me that veterinarians will sell it to clients for up to $1.00 a pill when you can by a bottle of 100 for $7.99 at Rite Aid. If only they had not lost their way, doing what is best for pets, not their bank accounts. (I know, not all are like that, there are some good ones out there!)

I know what u mean about vets too welll unfortunately. This new vet I found actually told me to buy it from CVS. I still haven't given it to my cats, I just wanted a few more positive responses, but 3 of you that did said to do it. My concern for giving it to them was bc I don't know what's really causing this allergy. There is just so many things, I've read so much about kitty allergies, I just didn't want to give them medication in fear of a worse reaction. And I hate the fact I'm just masking the problem instead of finding the cause... Thank you again @pgalore @artiemom and abbysmom

Gave it to my Pedro.   1/4 tablet  (4mg) once a day.   He had food allergies as well as what the vet thought were seasonal allergies.  No adverse effects and it did seem to help (along with limited ingredient diet).

What do you think of Zyrtec? Have you experienced any long term side effects from antihistamines? Any withdrawl effects after using long term?
