Adopted from large shelter at 9 weeks old - Grayce had come into the shelter with a small dermal neck wound. They treated with antibiotics.

When I brought her home she had loose stools. I was feeding dry ad kitten because that was her current food. She started having bouts of vomiting partially digested food. Took her to vet - he wormed her. He Checked her and worked.

He recommended SD ID wet for 5-6 days. I did this but she did not need much and she would vomit bile a night from an empty tummy. So I fed her a little more and vomiting stopped. Still stayed loose. A couple weeks later I took in another stool sample and vet found more roundworms. This time we wormed wth panacur for 3 days. No vomiting - stool started to get a little firmer.

This Monday Grayce got sick. She vomited a large amount of partially digested food. (I thought mane she ate too fast. But she felt lethargic all day, little appetite not playful. Late Monday ate a little boiled chicken played a little and had a really stinky loose poo. I took a sample of poo to vet - nothing found.

Overall she is very active. A bit finicky she doesn't want to eat her ID often. Otherwise I've stayed with RC kitten dry. I'm at my wits end.

Vet wants her to try a regime of RC GI wet prescription. I got 3 cans to try.

When I got home this afternoon,Moshe had thrown up some of the partially digest dry, I gave her some boiled chicken - she ate it and threw t up within 10 minutes. She is napping now.

I have read all the info about the arguments over the best cat food. My plan was good quality dry supplemented with dry if she would eat it. I would like to hear from anyone with similar problem.

Did the vet run a full fecal panel and test for paradise like giardia and coccidia?

My other thought here is that your kitten could have a grain allergy or a protein allergy. I would try a limited ingredient food with a different protein.

UPDATE

Thank you for the reply.  We have done several fecals (but just  in dr office) I asked about giardia but doc said he didn't see any signs.

Thursday

I decided it was too close to the weekend to wait.  So here I go back to vet.  He examines her and says her intestines feel thick.  We can either do blood work and/or xray for obstruction.

I told him I know anything is possible with a kitten but I felt 95% sure it was not obstruction.  I've had pets for years and I am OCD about keeping dangerous things off the floor and put up.   So we did the blood panel.   Every score came back good.  He sent me home with Albon & Meto ? 2X day for 5 days.

Grayce would drink water but any food she tried to eat came back.  she wanted to eat a few pieces of dry but it would come back up-  same with wet.

FRIDAY

still vomiting - I tempted her with wet food she would only lick the spoon.  Finally she ate about 1 tsp of SDID wet.  I was torn about giving the medicine or not since it can cause nausea but I had to go to doctor.  So, about 30 min after she ate the wet I gave her medicine and left.

while in town I email, called and went by the vet .   Its Friday and I know they were busy but I got no information. (this is a new vet for me) or offer to try to do something for the vomiting.

I arrived home and saw that she had threw up the wet food from the AM.  OK - I had had it.   I called my old vet office and talked to one of the senior vet techs.  Off to the office we go.

After examining.   doc said no tenderness but her intestines felt thick.  Xray was next step.  Xray was weird.  No obvious obstruction BUT the colon had a lot of gas (doc wasn't over  concerned about that.)  However, the small intestine looks thick.  He is concerned about IBD or lymphoma (less likely with her age).

So I am a nervous wreck.  Is my poor little shelter kitty going to have a life of steroids ?

Dr. Burton told me to hold off on the albon & meto? for a few days so we can get things settled down.

He gave her cerina (?) for the vomiting by injection and pills for several days.

He wants her to be on SDID canned for at least 5 days.

He said if her tummy settles we might use the albon or meto?

I know anything can happen but I sure do need some encouragement.

She had not been vomiting for about 4 weeks - even though her stool was loose more than firm

If she is not nauseous her appetite is good and activity level high

Dr. Burton said when we get her settled down we can do some food trials.

I sure hope this will end up being something we can manage with diet or she will outgrow.

:(  Feeling worried

IBD and small cell lymphoma is it.  I took my IBD kitty to a new vet when he was having a serious flare and the vet could feel the thickening when she palpitated his belly as well.  I got the ultrasound done.  The next step is to decide about a biopsy or to just treat for IBD.  I chose not to have a biopsy done and we just went with treating for IBD.  That will be 6 years ago this December and he is still doing well.  Others here did have the biopsy done.
