Feliway is good. My vet sprays it everywhere! Sounds like Nermal & Hewbie are doing very well. So long as you have the same # of cats in the morning as you did the night before that's a very good sign.

Haha, yes! So far so good. Yeah, the vet I work at has the diffusers in the cat room as well as the spray. I figured I'd start with the spray first and see if it works and then I might invest in the diffusers. Hewbie is making progress with Nermal. He will walk up to her and sniff her, and then immediately after he hisses. It's like he can't make up his mind just yet.

Hewbie is wondering why Nermal is still here!

I only have the spray. I think the plug ins are very expensive. IIRC the thing you plug into the socket needs replacing every 6 months & the actual diffuser thing only lasts a month. So if you buy a few of them, it quickly adds up.

I noticed that they were really spendy! Maybe I will just stick with the spray.

I'm sure he is wondering that, Haha. They're getting a little better. I actually saw them sitting next to one another this afternoon. And then he realized she was next to him and he got mad and hissed then walked away. He's such a baby.

It's been a few weeks now, since we've had Nermal with us, and it's been quite an eventful few that's for sure. Nermal is adapting extremely well. So, no worries on that front. Hewbie however, is not doing well at all.

I'm not entirely sure what is wrong. Whether it's stress or something else, he's been throwing up for several days now. Thursday night he threw up 10 times. I called and talked to one of the vet techs and she said if he can't keep food or water down for 24 hrs he needs to be brought in right away. He started eating and drinking later that night and didn't throw up all day the next day. I gave him his antibiotic that night and the next morning he was throwing up again. I took him in to see the vet on Friday, and he suggested to stop his antibiotics for the weekend and see if that could be the culprit. So I did. Saturday things were looking better, and he didn't throw up all day or night. He's been eating and drinking okay. Sunday morning he threw up twice, and then once again Sunday night. This morning he threw up again, twice. So, another call to the vet and I'm waiting to hear back from him.

This has been such a hard transition for Hewbie. And it breaks my heart to see him so miserable.

Nermal wants so badly to play with him. And she will run after him around the house and play with his tail. Hewbie does not like that at all. He gets very mad. My boyfriend said that right before he threw up this morning, he was really mad at Nermal and she was chasing him through the house. So, I'm really starting to wonder if his throwing up is stress related. I've got errands to run today, so I decided to lock Nermal in the bedroom (with food, water & litter) while I'm gone to try and get Hewbie to relax a little bit.

I'm just so worried.

I had a similar issue getting my 2 to get along, my resident cat was Feral and the one I brought in was not.  I ended up putting them both in cages during the night, and a few times during the day.  All other times, I kept them separated, every day I'd move the cages a little closer, until they finally got use to each other.

It could be that the transition is just going too quickly for Hewbie, and Nermal has too high of an energy level for him to deal with all at once.  You might need to slow things down a bit, and basically start over, this time introducing them more slowly.  Have them meeting no more than a few minutes, a few times a day, and give them treats, lots of rubs during this time, instead of them being out together the entire time.  Rub each cat down with a towel or rag, and place it in the other cat's area, so they can smell the other cat.    If possible try to get Nermal to not be so playful with him because that is probably making him even more nervous, and is also causing him to be sick more often.  I hope this helps.  Keep us posted.

Of course you're worried - I would be too. Let us know what the vet says. Something is definitely amiss, that's for sure.

I could be completely full of poo-poo and this might be a terrible idea, but would it be possible to get another kitten so Nermal will have someone to play with other than Hewbie?  I don't know if that would end up stressing Hewbie out more or less.  I mean, on one hand, then there would be 2 new kittens for him to get used to but on the other hand, Nermal wouldn't be bothering him as much.

I know who would be stressed - Heather! Cute idea though Alicia.

Haha! I probably wouldn't be stressed, but my boyfriend already said if I came home with another cat, he'd kill me lol.

I got a call back from the vet, we're still trying to figure out what's wrong. We are going to try some different food first to see if that helps tonight. If not then I'm taking him in tomorrow to have bloodwork done. I'm praying it's not anything serious. So far hewbie has been sleeping under the bed and he doesn't want to come out yet. I'm going to lock Nermal in the bedroom with us tonight and see if hewbie will eat the new food.

Fingers crossed.

Eh, he'd get over it.  Men are pushovers.  Just bat your eyes at him and he'll cave.  Works for me, anyway.

Don't tell him I said that.  He would probably decide to try to be less of a pushover.  Which would mean it would take me at least an extra 5 minutes to get my way.

We got news on Hewbie today. They had to sedate him to do X-rays, and they found a huge mass in his stomach. They gave him some barium to see if it was blocking anything, and there's a little room for things to pass through, but not much. When they pulled the tube out they said it was covered in hair so they're 90% sure it's a massive hairball. We're going to switch him to a high fiber diet along with some hairball paste, to try and get it moving. If it hasn't passed by next week, we'll have to schedule him for surgery to have it removed. So I'm praying he will be able to pass it on his own. But I'm so glad we've got answers to his vomiting and hopefully soon he will be feeling better!

Wow!  That's scary to think about, considering how much cats groom themselves.  It could happen to any cat.  But glad you found out what was wrong.  If he's got a huge hairball and whatnot, he probably doesn't feel very good and isn't in the mood for a playful kitten.  That might change.

Haha Alicia! I do tend to get my way quite a bit. That's how we ended up keeping Nermal. Although, I think he knew I wasn't going to give him a choice in the matter after all the time I spent trying to catch her. We're in an apartment now, and hopefully house hunting soon. But I know our next pet will most likely be a dog. He wants a dog so bad.

It is scary! He does groom himself quite a bit, even though I brush him daily. I might have to increase his brushing to twice a day... I'm just glad it wasn't anything serious like cancer. Shudder... when we lived with my mom and she got a kitten, after hewbie warmed up to her they played and slept together all the time. So I'm hoping once he feels better he will tolerate Nermal a little better.

I brought him home from the vet tonight. He's definitely miserable. He's camped out in a quiet hallway, doesn't want to be touched or anything. I had to lock Nermal in the bedroom again, because she was pestering him really bad and he kept trying to get away from her but she just kept following him.

Here's to hoping tomorrow is a better day for him.
