Olivia is gorgeous! I'm so jealous of your photography work... I have a pretty good camera, but obviously that's only half of it...

I'm waiting, just like the others, to see what kind of gorgeous kitties you and Olivia end up with... Your first pregnant kitty, that's so exciting!!!

Hey guys! So I am needing some advice...

If you remember, last month I pulled 4 cats from a very full shelter that doesn't get a lot of adoptions... two of the cats that I pulled from there had been there for a year and a half. These cats at this shelter don't have a cat play room like some do, so the cats are in cages the entire time. I told them that I would be in contact with them when I have room to pull some more cats from them and that they can contact me if they ever get any pregnant cats in because I would like to help with them. They contacted me today and said that they have a couple... Here are their pictures...

This is Saddie... they said she is very pregnant and friendly

This is Samantha. They think that it is likely that she is pregnant but they aren't 100% sure, so I don't think she is far along.

This is Sabrina. They said she is pregnant and is very scared being in the shelter.

These two are boys that they sent me because it sounds like they all came from the same area.

So. My problem, as always is room. Right now I have Olivia in my spare room ready to have her kittens and normally I would have room for another pregnant cat in my bedroom, but currently I have an FIV+ cat in my bedroom. IF I find a foster to take my FIV+ cat in that will open up my bedroom, my problem then is that I really would like to take Sabrina and Sadie... do you think that I would be able to keep them both in there since they came from the same area? I have heard that some cat colonies coparent kittens... or do you think it would be an issue and I should only take one of the moms?

Thanks!

I think it is well worth trying to take both, especially since Sabrina is not doing well at the shelter. They may do just fine together, and even enjoy each other's company. Cats are generally very social. Poor kitties being cooped up in cages. [emoji]128546[/emoji]

All the cats look similar. Were they from a colony? Will they be neutering the males? They all look very sweet actually. Thank you for doing this!

It sounds like they all came from the same colony in the email that they sent me. I wish I had room for all of them. This shelter unfortunately does not have the resources to have all of their animals spayed/neutered while they are there, all of the cats are in separate cages though and they include the spay/neuter with the adoption fee.  There just isn't a lot of resources in the area for homeless animals :/ I am worried about taking them both and then them not getting along in the same room because of them protecting their babies, then I won't have anywhere to put the other mom.

That is tricky. As sarthur1 says, cats are social (well, some are), but would 2 nursing mothers be sociable & not feel threatened by the other cat? And what happens if they don't give birth at the same time? You know what, it will either work or it will not.

I still think you should try it. Orange kitties have notoriously laid back personalities. If it works, it gets 2 cats out of their cages. I have a feeling it will work.

I just can't stand the thought of them giving birth and raising kittens in those cages.

I probably will be taking the two momma cats and see how it goes! Still planning for the car ride and everything... Do you have any tips to make the car ride less stressful on them? It will be about a two and a half hour trip, separate carriers.

Oh Geez. So I was approached by someone at work today who has a pregnant cat living outside of his house that he needs help with. I told him I am practically bursting at the seams here right now. He said she had kittens last year and they got eaten my coyotes where he lives because there are a lot of them so he really thinks it would be best if I can take her :/ So now I really need to find placement for my FIV+ cat and then I can possibly put her in the bathroom to have her kits? I have not seen her so I don't know how far along she is or anything. I contacted the person who contacted me before about financially helping me spay/abort kittens and see if she would be able to help me and if she can get her in this week I would consider doing that. If it is much later than this week I don't think I can do it. I am skeptical if they will be able to get us in soon because a lot of the vets are scheduled pretty far in advance for spays/neuters which I guess is a good and a bad thing. We'll see. This is stressing me out. I need more rooms lol.

Wow! Well, kitten season is upon us!

I think putting the stray in the bathroom will work if she's too far along for a spay/termination, which I don't recommend during the final 3 weeks of pregnancy anyway. That poor stray deserves a home.

As for the 2.5 hour drive, put the carriers facing each other so they can see one another for comfort. Play classical music. Line the bottom of the carriers with pee pads or towels in case either kitty has an accident or needs to go. I had one cat who always pooped in the carrier as she became very nervous. Easy to clean with disposable pads.

Good luck and give us the update! I totally understand your stress level!

This is just so overwhelming already this year! I like to pride myself on always having room for emergency pregnant/mom and litter situations but this is just a bit much already!

Wow you truly must have amazing amounts of space right? Lol! But anyway that's nice of you to take in cats even though you won't exactly have enough room for all of them I'm sure they will get along all great!!

Thanks, we were contacted today about ANOTHER pregnant mom. There absolutely is no way that I have room for her. Hopefully I can find a foster to help her.

It must be the unseasonably warm temperatures sending the cats into early spring heats. You've really got your hands full.

When do you pick up the newest cats?
