Back from the vet with Franklin! They were a little perplexed like me. We aren't really sure what is wrong, they ran a fecal and could not find any parasites. They gave him fluids and he perked up a lot, and gave me canned recovery to syringe feed him since I have not seen him eating, then an anti-inflammatory ointment for his butt. We are just going to keep a close eye on him and if he starts vomiting he will have to go back to the vet for an x-ray to see if its a blockage in his intestines. Hope this baby starts feeling better soon!

This morning since I have him seperated from everyone I was able to verify that he does have diarrhea (I wasn't sure before- Andy must have been cleaning him) so I called the vet and asked if I could start giving him metronidazole as this is one of the medications they had given me for Winifred when she had diarrhea and I had some left over, they agreed that that would be a good idea! I am hoping that when the diarrhea stops that it clears all of this up!

Today we rushed him to the emergency vet :( After absolutely no change in his diarrhea then this morning while I was cleaning the diarrhea off of him he pooped blood. He has lost so much weight he is just bones. The emergency vet said that it doesn't really look good and she can't guarantee his health, its likely that he won't make it through it. They did a CBC test and his white blood cell count is high, which means it probably isn't panleuk which they were thinking. They gave us Albon in case it is coccidiosis even though the fecal was negative for it. His temp was also low. They gave him more fluids and gave me fluids to give him at home.

His siblings are about 1lb and 5 oz, and he was close to them in weight before. Now he is 14 oz :( This is breaking my heart. A little bit ago I  syringe fed him the recovery canned food from the vet and he ate about half of the can- his belly was full! Which is hopeful! Tomorrow we are going to go pick up a case of this food. My heart hurts.

Aww, I'm so glad that you rushed him to the vet, and that you are not giving up. He's had fluids, is eating, and is now on Albon. I'm hoping he will make a turn-around. If he does, he'll gain the weight back fast.

What color is the diarrhea?

Aww, poor sweet little baby, to have to go through that at such a young age, & so tiny already!  I hope he continues to eat, the meds work, & he gets better.

I said a prayer for the little one. Hugs to you!!

About a day ago the diarrhea turned to an orange color, then this morning while I was cleaning him it was straight red. It has gone back to the orange/brownish coloring. He has been eating a good bit which is hopeful, sleeping on his heating pad for the most part.

Yes, eating well is a good sign! If the Albon does not work, ask for Panacur. It cures Giardia very quickly and is easy on the system.

Please let us know how he is tomorrow.

I have some Panacur on hand actually! Do you know what the dose would be? I am at work now and I can't stop thinking about him. :/ I am so stressed out because now my own cat is having medical issues, I am thinking an abscess but he wont let me look at it so he has a vet appointment on Wednesday. Then tonight I got a message about a pregnant cat living outside, its way too cold out now for her to have her babies outside :( I need a break.

I am hoping its just an abscess, but I am worried that it could be something else. All that I could see is that there is a lump there and it was smelly and painful for him. He wouldn't let me look at it too much. I am so worried it is something else that he will need some big surgery to remove.

The panacur dose is 25 mg per pound. So he would get .025 mL once a day for 7 days based on a one-pound weight.

You can start your cat on an antibiotic such as clavamox or amoxicillin if you have any at home. An abscess will frequently drain and go away with antibiotics. Keep the area clean also. This is what the vet will likely recommend also. Where on its body is the abscess?

Is someone trapping the pregnant cat for you? She definitely needs shelter.

Will your boyfriend be there to help today?

Hang in there!

Sarge/my cat:  it does not appear to be an abscess now. The lump that I saw before I found this morning laying on the ground near him. It appears to be a huge clump of poop and fur. But it and him both smell like an infection so we bumped his vet appointment up to tomorrow evening and I put the lump of whatever in a bag to take in. He hisses at me when I come near him to look, he never hisses at me so I think he is in a lot of pain.

Franklin: My vet looked over the bloodwork done at the emergency vet and wants to do a panleuk test. The emergency vet didnt think that it was panleuk because he had a high white blood cell count. My vet thinks that it might be another infection on top of panleuk causing the high white blood cell count. So we are going in tomorrow to have that test run. This is so draining. We have spent over $450 in vet bills for a kitten that we are continually being told more than likely will not make it. My vet's other guess is fading kitten syndrome. I can't stop sobbing over this.

Pregnant stray cat: We aren't thinking a trap is necessary, they said she is a very friendly stray. She is located a couple of hours away from me so I won't be able to pick her up until this weekend anyway so I reached out to another rescue to see if they can pick her up and keep her inside until I can get her. I would hate for her to have her kittens outside. There is snow on the ground here. I have no idea how far along she is, I asked the lady if she could feel/see kitten movement or to send me a picture, she said she wasn't sure but would try to send me a picture soon.

Is the main symptom diarrhea at present? I realize that lethargy and weight loss result from loss of fluids. Has there been any vomiting?

Is his poop still orange? Orange is indicative of too much bile in the stool.

I'm wondering if you should hold off on testing for now and continue treating the diarrhea. It could be parasites or bacterial infection. You can give panacur and albon together. That may solve it. I know that parasites did not show up on the fecal, but sometimes they don't. Chronic diarrhea can cause weight loss.

If it's panleuk the other kittens should have it too. Panleukopenia is highly contagious. Kittens usually run fever, lose their appetite, and Franklin is eating well.

I think you need to give it time before you accept the vet's determination that he may not make it.

We have been giving fluids daily, I have to syringe feed him for him to be able to eat now. I will mention the other siblings when I take him to the vet in the morning because I thought that was weird too. He seems to be getting weaker every time that I go in the room to feed him. He was only 13.3 oz when I weighed him this morning :( I have not noticed blood in the stool today and his stool seems to be mostly light brown now. This just seems a little impossible. We are working hard to keep this little baby alive!

I hope he makes it. This is heartbreaking. I hate it that he has to be away from his siblings too. I know you are doing everything in your power to get him well. Keep us posted.
