Hi all, so last night I awoke to my cat bullet vomiting, he threw up about every 20 mins for four hours. First it was tubular shaped undigested food, then just bile and white foam. He's strictly indoor, no chemicals, plants etc. I did notice a few strings of the plastic part from underneath the carpet. They did an xray, said they didn't see anything that points to an obstruction. His gums are pale and cold, normal temp, but cried as he passed a small bowl movement and laid in his litter box(very unlike him) he looks just awful. He's staying overnight at the vet and I'm terrified that he may not make it. I know the padding underneath carpets have all kinds of chemicals in it, flame retardants ect. Could that poison him? Has anyone else had experience with anything similar?

Sending you tons of healthy vibes for your cat @parisinthe30sx

Hopefully, the fact that he vomited and was able to pass a bowel movement is a good sign.

And it is especially good that you got him to your vet. They'll be able to keep an eye on him, give him fluids and run tests, to make sure he's okay.

I don't know if the padding underneath carpets can poison a cat, but likely he would not want to eat a lot of it, because of the taste.

Wishing you only good news in the morning.

Thank you for responding. He passed away at the vet a few hours after he started getting fluids. He received an injection of cerenia as well. It turned out that he didn't have any carpet in his stomach but he had a slightly thickened heart, the vet called it cardiomyopathy or something like that. It's just so sudden, one minute he's fine the next he's throwing up for four hours and then he's gone. He was three. Apparently it's genetic, all my cats are related, so I pray none of them have it. Thank you for taking the time to respond

I am very sorry for your loss.  Unfortunately heart problems are easy to miss when there are no symptoms.  You really had no warning and did everything you could for Bullet.  There are so many different things that can cause vomiting so there was no way for you to know this was a heart issue.  One of my friend's lost a young adult cat when he passed away in his sleep.  The cat was acting perfectly normal before they went to bed and had been to the vet for an annual check-up about a week ago.  Her vet told her it was probably a heart attack while he was sleeping.

Hugs to you during this difficult time.

It is too sudden. Heart disease is awful when it takes one so young.

I'm so sorry for your loss. :sniffle:

I lost my soul-kitty without any warning. She also had a genetic heart condition (that we really didn't know much about). It's always hard to lose them; but having it happen so quickly is a different kind of hard.
