I do a lot of midnight grocery shopping, generally because I didn't get to it during the day.

The aisles are crowded with employees, carts, and boxes, because they're restocking at that hour, and frequently the things I'm looking for are not on the shelves.  I end up getting something other than what I wanted or going home with only part of my list.  Very frustrating.

Margret
It's never been bad when I've gone.  I'm commonly there between the hours of 1 am and 3 am, honestly.  Also, maybe it's partly because this is a very small town so they don't have to do as much restocking as in larger cities?  I have no idea - I'm just making a guess.  There are always a few aisles being restocked, but it's not every aisle and I can usually find what I'm looking or ask one of the employees - who are easier to find than during the day, for some reason.

Today is trash day.  I've cleaned 2 litter boxes and taken out the recycling, trash and compost.

Jerry was out for another hour playing with Da Bird while checking out Eclipse who is slightly less afraid of him now.  Kim said it looked like he was going to groom Jerry but then Jerry ran off.  Kittens are exhausting!

Having a cold doesn't help.  I've had so much tea w/honey that my teeth feel fuzzy.

I am still dealing with the same painful medical issue. Hubby actually stayed home today and took me to the doctor this morning since I was in too much pain to go to work. My doctor gave me some medicine for the pain and wrote me off work until Thursday. I normally handle litter box duties but hubby is taking care of it tonight. When we got back from the doctor hubby asked me when the litter boxes needed to be scooped and then told me I was not allowed to take care of it.

That's really nice of him.  My boyfriend has a huge aversion to poop - most people do, but he's worse about it than most people - so I handle the litter boxes but sometimes if I'm not feeling good, I'll go to do it and see that he's already handled it.  And the fact that he hates it so much makes it seem so much sweeter.

I hope you feel better.  Relax as much as you can, which I know isn't easy when you're in pain, but do your best.

I'm glad you're married to a man you can rely on.

So, I have a friend at church who is recovering very slowly from a broken leg.  I'm busy downloading purring cat videos from YouTube for her.  (Wonderful the things you can find on YouTube, isn't it?)

Does anyone know whether the bone healing advantage from purring is from hearing it, or is it feeling it?  As in, can she put on headphones and listen, or does she need to get the speakers right up next to her leg?

Jasmine is upset with me.  Not only do I have a stupid computer on my lap, where she belongs, it's actually purring!  How is a cat supposed to compete?

Jodie is just five years younger than I am, and I hadn't realized how much difference that made in what we knew.  She asked me this morning about the "rumor" she'd been told "as a kid" that Uncle Harold killed himself.  I remember that very well, and I know for certain that I was married when it happened, but then I was only 22 when I married Roger so I guess she might have still considered herself a kid at the time.  I didn't realize it was that long ago, though.

(For the record, Uncle Harold only kind-of-sort-of killed himself.  He was suffering from chronic pain and was trying to get his doctor to prescribe stronger drugs for it, so he staged two or three classic cry-for-help suicide attempts, the kind meant to be caught in time and get the doctor to take him seriously.  The final one wasn't caught in time.  I hate the kind of diseases that kill by suicide.  I've lost two friends that way, as well as a beloved uncle.)

Margret
That is so sad.  This is another problem caused by drug addicts.  Doctors have a hard time telling when someone actually is in pain and needs stronger drugs or when someone is just an addict looking for pills.  It's horrible that a few rotten apples cause problems for everyone.

So, I did something that could have gotten me in trouble if any of my supervisors heard it, but since they only listen to completed surveys, there is no chance of that happening.  I'm only supposed to remove a number from the call list if the person I'm asking for requests it and if someone like the wife or whatever asks me to, I status it as a nonscheduled callback.  Well, I called for a guy and his wife very nicely told me he wasn't home and when I asked if I could call back (which is just for appearances because we are supposed to do it anyway) she asked me not to because they have a lot going on in their lives right now.  So I took them off the list.  I wouldn't have done it if she'd been nasty and rude about it.  Yeah, the risk of me getting caught is minuscule, but I won't take even that much of a risk for someone who's rude to me.
Actually, this was long enough ago that I think maybe the doctor couldn't legally prescribe anything adequate.  It was chronic, not acute, and it wasn't terminal.  That means that if the doctor had given him opioids, Uncle Harold would very quickly have become addicted; there's no way he could ever have gotten off.

The doctor did try to send him to some pain management classes that taught things like meditation and self hypnotism for pain, but Uncle Harold was part of "The Greatest Generation," the generation that fought World War II.  Most men of that generation simply didn't do touchy feely things like meditation; Uncle Harold rejected that possibility out of hand.

Did you know that there was a time when doctors were actually uncertain about the ethics of supplying adequate pain relief to terminal patients?  The logic was that if you take away the pain, the patient will relax, and that's when the patient dies.  Therefore, adequate pain relief might be considered a form of euthanasia.  There's just enough truth in the physiology of it to make this truly appalling idea plausible.  And you thought we treat pets better than humans now!

Coolest thing ever. John somehow accidentally taught Murphy a trick. He doesn't know how it happened either. He wasn't trying to.
Murphy gives high fives. Hold your hand up and he'll touch it with his paw. I kinda love it.

I was just about to mention water for yourself, but @Artiemom beat me to it.  And she's right; you need a little bit more than crackers, peanut butter, and tuna.

I'm so glad that your new apartment isn't next door to the troll.

Margret
To both you and @artiesmom, yes, it is a blessing.  And no troll.  Word is that she is eaten up with jealously (I'm in a two-bedroom), and is grousing about it all over the complex, and being roundly laughed at for it.  I'd be glad to go back to a downstairs one-bedroom if she will take my dratted vertigo!

I have four gallons of water in my pantry, and I'll fill a pan for H. Renee (Hekitty Renee is her full name), so she has a good supply.  I also have several cans of tuna, and mayonnaise in those little packets, so I can make tuna salad sammiches to alternate with the PB&J.  I have until Saturday at last report.  I don't think this is going to be huge.  I'm thinking more fairly heavy wind, buncha rain, and maybe a power outage lasting 18-24 hours.  AND the weather is significantly cooler, so that's doable.

We aren't allowed to have grills here, but I'm thinking of getting one of those mini camp stoves for just such occasions.  I can hide a case of sterno very easily.  That would allow me to make coffee and such on the porch in case of prolonged power outages.  Maybe a decent sized cooler, as well, since I have a place to store one now.  A few camp style cooking vessels...coffee pot, small stew pot, small frying pan, small sauce pan...I could ride out a good bit with that...OH, and I need to buy another oil lamp or two.

From what I understand, she needs the actual cat lying on top of the bone.  The frequency of the purring sets up an ultrasound type thing that speeds healing.  That said, the sound of the purring is calming, and calming means muscles relaxing, and that means less pain.  Won't hurt a darned thing.  If the computer speaker is very very good, and the vibration of the purr translates across the electronic system, you might get some effect from a recording.  You would need to put the speaker right on the cast.  She can listen to the purring to calm and ease pain when not vibrating her poor leg.

Well, she's no longer in a cast, which means she can presumably (assuming she has the right equipment) get a speaker right up against her leg.  Maybe I'd better burn it to a CD for her.  I saved the files at the highest resolution available; I hope that translates to the best audio as well.  One of the things is actually 10 hours long!  (It must be either looping or combining recordings of different cats -- I haven't actually listened to the whole thing, just downloaded it.)

Good grief!  Send me a copy of that CD!  I'd love to have it for days when I'm all mug-wumpish and Ms. Snotty Thang won't give me the time of day!

Happy to.  I'll just cut two instead of one.  Have to lock Jasmine in the other room while I do it, of course.  I've had her accidentally open the CD/DVD tray of the computer without properly ejecting first, ruining CDs.  (Yes, I know.  It's impossible to explain about "ejecting" to a cat.  I tried.  She just went "Huh?")

Oh, BTW, I got a fairly large Styrofoam cooler and a couple of blue ice packs at Kroger for quite a reasonable price a month or so ago; they've been sending me coupons for more every week since.

I knew cats provided a lot of health benefits but I didn't know they could help a broken bone.  Something to keep in mind if I ever break myself again.  I don't have a huge history of broken bones - just broke my left middle finger twice and my back once.

I wish I'd known about it when I broke my arm in three places four and a half years ago.  It was in a cast for months, and I'm still doing occupational therapy to try to regain full function in that hand.

I broke my back nearly 12 years ago and it still gives me trouble.  I woke up this morning with my back hurting like h e double hockey sticks.  I kept neglecting to get a heating pad - I've borrowed one from a friend when I've needed it recently and I just kept forgetting to get one when I was at the store.  So I ran to Wal*Mart and got a heating and some icyhot patches.  Hopefully it helps.  I don't know if I slept funny or what, but it is most unpleasant.  While I was there I got some more cat litter.  I've been getting the 40 pound boxes of Arm & Hammer litter.  It saves money in the long run.  I buy in bulk when I can.  Anyway, I lifted it into the cart by myself and about collapsed with pain so I asked if I could have someone help load it into my car and then had John unload it when I got home.  He asked if I needed him to come with me and I said I didn't because I wasn't planning to get cat litter - I just figured I probably should because they boxes are going to need a full change pretty soon.  I try to do it every 2 weeks, sometimes more often if they seem to need it.  I don't like them to get smelly and I'm sure the boys like it even less since they're the ones who need to use them.

I also picked up a cat grass kit for them and a few more of those cheap catnip mice - the first ones I got them were their favorite toys even after I got them all that stuff off Amazon, but they're looking kinda grungy so I decided to go ahead and replace them.  And I got them a crinkly cat cave bag.  They only seemed halfway interested in it, but they're in their sleepy cycle.  They get a random burst of energy and go all psycho at certain times of the day - I could almost set my watch by them - so we'll see how they like it when they're in play mode.

Alicia, try to buy a heating pad that has moist heat. It is the very best for a sore back. Mine has a thin sponge that you rinse in water & then place next to the heating pad. I could sit with that thing for hours. Don't lift heavy things! Cat litter is the worst.

Why can't people just be happy for each other. All that time you've been imprisoned on a second floor anyone worth breathing your air would be filled with joy that you're free. Stay safe in the storm.

I wish I had mentioned that I was going to get one before I went so you could have given me that advice before I bought one without the moist heat.  I was looking at those, but I hadn't tried a moist heat heating pad before so I didn't know if they would help more or not.  I think I'll take it back and exchange it because I haven't even opened the box yet.  I just put an icyhot patch on for now.  So I shouldn't have a problem exchanging it.
