I absolutely adore my grandma, but she is the hardest person in the world to get off the phone with.  Of course, she did more than even my mom to raise me so the least I can do is talk as long as she wants.  But it really cut into my sleep today.  I like my sleep.  A lot.  And she needs to stop forcing money on me!  Her car has been acting up a bit so I've been taking her to the grocery and whatnot.  She made me take $5 even though I told her I would have going anyway so it really didn't cost me any more gas.  She's on a tighter budget than I am.  Social security isn't gonna make anyone rich and she's putting every extra cent she has into grandpa's funeral costs.  So she really needs the money more than I do, but arguing with my grandma is like talking to a brick wall.
Kinda funny.  I guess the other day someone asked her how she lived so long and stayed so healthy.  She's 85 and she doesn't take any medications and doesn't have any health problems.  She has arthritis, false teeth, and glasses but other than that, she's perfectly healthy.  Her response:  "I stay away from doctors."  She hasn't been to a doctor in 40 years.  She says she doesn't need to see a doctor because there's nothing wrong with her.  Can't argue with that logic.
Nice story. I'm always amazed by women I know of all ages who've never had a mammogram. They figure there's nothing wrong with them & they don't need one.

Roger's sister is a night owl; her grandmother was an early bird and used to wake Roger's sister up at 5 a.m. to ask what she was doing.  One day my sister-in-law called her grandmother just before going to bed at around 2 a.m. to inquire what she wanted to talk with her about so she could get it out of the way before going to sleep.  Her grandmother always managed to call her in the afternoon after that, for some reason...

Please note that I am not necessarily advocating this strategy; you know your own grandmother best.  As for the unwanted money donations, can you sneak some money into her pocket book when she's not looking?  And if you do, will you get away with it?  Or, perhaps, can you ask her, as a favor to you, that she allow you to contribute to your grandfather's burial costs?  After all, you (presumably) loved him, too; you have a right to be involved.

Ugh, got the worst thing ever - a migraine. I get them rarely, but I've got a stinker right now. Three Execedrin Migraine should do the trick.

I'M BACK!!!   I have MOST of the house unpacked, everything I can do without climbing on a step stool, which will wait until my pulled thigh muscle gets better, and the books. which will wait until I get new bookcases.  The books are in boxes along the walls of the office/library, and most everything else is spices and boxed/canned foods, which are in a box by the kitchen.  I can function.

Poor Hekitty spent Saturday night and much of yesterday acting like a feral, slinking about.  I couldn't keep her in just one room because I was afraid I'd fall, trying to lean over the walker to open a door.  HOWEVER, as soon as I raised the blinds in the living room by 18 inches, and she realized that things were now happening right at eye level, and THEN found the glass door in the dining room, she was back to her old self!

I just got an email from @Mamanyt1953.  She's very glad to have her computer up and running, but the task chair is digging into the pulled leg muscle so she's going back to bed.  She says she'll post tonight.

Unfortunately, the temperature on the water heater in her new apartment is set so low that, while she can manage a shower, a hot bath to relax that muscle is out of the question.  She's requested that the maintenance man fix this problem, but it hasn't happened yet.

Margret
If she knows where the hot water heater is, she can easily fix it herself.  There will probably be a panel.  Just remove the screws, take the panel off, and turn up knob.  I need to get around to doing that myself because I always run out of hot water before I can fill up the tub and I like an occasional soak.
Thanks.  I'll text her.  Of course, she may still not be able to do it; depends on whether she has a screwdriver and whether the injury will keep her from it.

Not sure if that is good advice about taking the panel off the water heater. With my new one, the electricity has to be turned off first before removing the panel.

I've texted her to see both of these posts.  On my new water heater, the thermostat isn't even behind a panel.  I rather doubt that this is a new water heater, by the way.  It came with the apartment.

My grandpa was the closest thing to a dad I ever had and he did a better job than most dads.  He taught me to use tools, change a tire, check and change the oil, and all the other things ever kid should know before going out into the world.  Unbeknownst to my mom, he also taught me to drive.  From the time I was 12, he took me out the country in his truck, stopped, and told me to get behind the wheel and drive.  When I got my learner's permit at 15, mom took me out to teach me and said, "Wow, you're a natural!"  Yep, that's exactly what it is.  Hehe

He did the same thing for Christi, who is 4 years younger than me, but DD didn't get to attend grandpa's driving school.  She's 12 years younger than me and by the time she was 12, the Alzheimer's had hit hard and he was in bad health.

Grandma always knows exactly how much money she has so she would never fall for that.  While I can occasionally spare $5 or $10, I live paycheck to paycheck, but when I get my income taxes I'm going to give her a few hundred dollars - if I can get her to take it.  She's stubborn as a mule.  It runs in the family.  Of course, I didn't get that gene.  *whistles innocently*

The water heater we had before our new one had an identical panel. It was over 20 years old. Wherever there is water & electricity, it is best to turn off the electricity to that appliance first.

Turning the electricity off is easy, too.  Just flick the breaker.

LOL I was raised to handle things myself because you can never depend on anyone else.

If Mamanyt1953 has a gas water heater, then there is no circuit breaker. There should be a dial on the front of the tank that you can turn to adjust the water temperature. Every brand of water heater has a different way of marking the different temperature settings, letters where A may be the hottest setting and C is the lowest setting or marks where one mark is the lowest setting and three marks is the high setting or something else. The landlord of the apartment should be the one who adjusts the water temperature setting, just so that if something happens the tenant can'tbe blamed and held responsible.

So did you get the two bedroom ? Poor Hekitty but I'm glad she's loving her new view. And I'm so sorry you fell and hope you heal fast. ouch.

Got an appointment with the dentist this morning.  Turns out it wasn't a leftover piece of tooth.  It was a piece of bone.  So, lots of needle pokes to numb my mouth, then the gum was sliced open and the the bone was sanded down so it would be smooth and the sharp part wouldn't keep preventing the healing, then he sewed up the hole.  I'm sure I'm gonna be in pain when the numbing stuff wears off.

Geez, I'm in pain just reading this.  Sending you many wishes for quick and painless healing!

Speaking of dental work...Tomorrow is Chula's dental procedure.  I am trying to figure out how to handle not feeding her the night before.  Should I feed Paul or not?  Will she feel even more upset if he gets to eat and she doesn't?  And how can I handle Paul if I don't feed him?  He doesn't exactly take "no" for an answer.  If I don't feed him, he's not going to let me sleep all night.

These thoughts are keeping me from worrying about the procedure.  I know cats go through this every day, but if anything happened to Chula, I would be devastated.

Foster kitten update:  So amazed that this kitten was ever considered as unadoptable.   Jerry is quite the love bug.  Purring up a storm and grooming us.  He is also running around and playing with toys.  Yesterday he figured out how to climb the ladder to the lofted bed.  I put the Good Senses cat track toy around one of the bed posts and he loves it.  He can 'hide' behind the post and pounce sending the ball around the track.  When he took his nap yesterday he tucked himself under the comforter and had his head on the big stuffed dog.  This morning (after an earlier play session) I was walking by the door and he was trying to convince me to come back in and play.   He is becoming very talkative.

My Sophie was treated similarly at the Humane Society. I went to meet Lilith after seeing her picture online. When they took me in to meet her, she was in there with 2 siblings. A brother and a sister. The brother had been adopted and was awaiting his family coming to get him. Her sister was hiding under a chair in the far corner of the room. The worker waved toward her and told me I could ignore her because she was "unfriendly". She saw me playing with her siblings and giving them treats so she slowly inched towards me. i tossed her a treat here and there and soon she was playing with them and me. She became comfortable enough that she started eating out of a dish that was beside me and let me pet her while she ate. When I went back to the desk and the same woman asked me if I wanted o take Lily, I heard a voice say, "I'll take both of them." Yup - it was me. I just blurted it out. even I was surprised. :D

The woman was shocked that anyone would want little Midge because none of the workers or volunteers were able to bond with her. I found out later that she had been there all of 2 weeks. They judged her as "unfriendly" after 2 weeks.

Want to guess who my soul kitty turned out to be?

My little bunny girl (not that I don't adore Baby Lily and Brother (Henry)- I do- it's just that Sophie and I have just a little more.

I call her my bunny girl sometimes. I so want to get her this for Christmas. I don't know if she'd appreciate it though. She'd look so cute in it :9:
