I use "rescue remedy" for my cats when they are upset, like when i put five new cats in one of the bedrooms. They have a non alcoholic pet version, and just one drop on their wet food changes them from skittish to mellow! I use the adult version for myself, not sure how mellow I am, but it helps with anxiety.
They're usually fine.  They didn't even get upset on July 4 when all the fireworks were going off.  This is the only time Connor and Murphy have gotten worked up over anything.  Mickey is fairly new, so I don't know if he's normally jumpy with loud noises and things.  And I'm pretty sure having a neighbor die is a rare thing.  Especially since the people in the other 2 apartments are young and healthy.  But I might try to find some of this so I'll have it on hand just in case they get upset again.  Connor and Murphy have been pampered house kitties since the day they were born - they're not afraid of anything.  Except the smell of death, apparently.  Mickey was rescued off the streets so he might get upset more easily.  This is the first time he's been freaked out, but we've only had him for a couple of months.

I am home with my fur babies. I truly appreciate them so much tonight. I am under a lot of stress and I was feeling alone. All in a sudden two cats + a dog all wanted my attention one way or another. I love the sound of purring and the feel of a cold wet nose on my leg.

What is "rescue remedy"? For pets and humans???????? I must be dense or I have never heard of it. Sounds like some kind of alcoholic beverage for humans, should  "mellow you out". But I thought alcohol is bad for cats? Am I missing something here?

The pets version is non alcoholic, also good for children. It's a homeopathic remedy so you only use a few drops. I didn't believe it would work at first but the difference is amazing. You get it at the health food store or online.

For more information on Rescue Remedy, check out:  http://www.bachflower.com/rescue-remedy-pets-bach-flower/   My sister swears by the human form of Rescue Remedy but it's never done a thing for me.  Then again, when it comes to homeopathic remedies, I'm a complete skeptic.
Me too. While I agree that home remedies have been the basis for all kinds of now prescription or OTC drugs I think there are too many that have no value whatsoever besides making the user think they have done something, anything to relieve whatever ails them. I leave diagnosis and medications to those who have studied it under close supervision. Science over hear-say anytime. I will check at the healthfood store for Rescue Remedy and see how much it costs, and if it is not so much that I would throw it away if I find it not to do a thing I will try it on my foster Patrick who freaks out whenever somebody comes into the place because I will never find somebody to adopt him if he keeps acting like that.

That gift card I won from here sure came at the right time.  Money is pretty tight because John and I have both been losing hours at work.  With my job, I've been getting off early and called off because we were running out of numbers.  His job, they didn't have any work for them because they're adding a new side to the factory - basically doubling it - and a lot of the people who were here setting up the machinery saw the supervisor murder his wife in the hotel parking lot and went home.  Anywho, money is way tight.  And I've been sitting here trying to figure out how we were gonna get cat litter cuz we're about out.  And then I ordered 80 lbs off Amazon Prime for around $23 and free shipping.  Gift card totally covered it.  Yay!  So, thanks again for the gift card!!!

Arm & Hammer is pretty good litter.  And it's a great deal right now, if anyone else is interested.

We had a really rough couple of weeks here.  A teenage girl died in an accident because she was texting and driving then 3 more teens died in a drunk driving accident.  Then a 19 year old committed suicide.  The 19 year old's father was one of the supervisors in the factory.  He and his wife had been estranged for a while.  So, they were arguing in the hotel parking lot and he shot her in the head.  In front of their adult daughter.

This used to be such a nice, quiet place.

Thanks, I just ordered 80 lbs also for $24.50 including sales tax, what a a deal, with now 5 cats I use a lot of litter. Somebody left a 35 lb plastic jug of litter in the laundry room so I took that too, it's pretty heavy and I have a hard time pouring it but it will get lighter
as I pour. The Arm & Hammer comes in a box so I can scoop that with a 6 cup measuring cup.

I would have bought a couple more boxes if I'd had the money.  I mean, a deal like that makes you want to stock up!

They went home because they saw the supervisor murder his wife?  Gee, how could they possibly think that was cause to go home?!  (I'm being sarcastic, of course.  This is exactly the time when you want to get out of there -- when there's an angry man waving a gun around in the parking lot and shooting people.  Not to mention when you're a witness to a murder, and the murderer knows it and is right there and still armed.  Good for them.)

Sounds like you guys have had a really rotten couple of weeks.  I'm sorry to hear it.  I'm glad the gift card came when you needed it, at least.

Yes, the human version does have alcohol in it, but you're only supposed to use a few drops.  The alcohol is not the active ingredient.

It's never done anything for me, either, and I haven't tried it on pets.  But even prescription drugs have different effects on different people, so that doesn't mean very much.

Thanks for that! About my cats, oh my... I have five cats, all hard luck cases that came to me from one source or another. Everybody who knows me knows I won't say no to another cat. I love them all so much. Little white long hair Phoebe with blue crossed eyes and lots of attitude. Wee Jock and Annapurna, tabbies found on a Wyoming oil well rig. Taz, a chunky tuxie who almost died from swallowing a string as a tiny kitten. And fluffy, autistic calico Lady who really doesn't get social interaction, but loves a good pet on the kitchen rug now and then. I also have 3 sets of fosters, waiting to be rehomed except for the four who have FELV, they will be with me in their own part of the house for as long as they live, hopefully a good long time.
Bless you, and welcome!   I look forward to getting to know both you and your crew!

I am in the terrible conundrum that many cat owners face. Having to pee, but also having two cats on my lap.
This is known as "incapussitated."

SO, the other day I was sitting on my front porch on my fancy-schmancy walker with the seat when the dratted thing decided to buck me off into the yard.  Thank goodness the maintenance man hear Suzanne screaming like a banshee, and helped me up.  I thought I was fine, but now I'm losing the feeling in my right hand, the side I fell on.  SIGH.  Another doctor trip.
I second your blessings and welcome to @Sheri Brown.  We're very glad to have anyone who obviously cares so much for cats.

"Incapussitated" is genius.

You posted this over a day ago, how is the hand doing now?  I worry.  I'm good at it.  Positively talented, in fact.

Sorry, apparently I was looking at some old posts or something, some other conversation. I was very surprised when I saw my post with a completely different conversation around it. Give me time, I'll get this figured out.
Try using the Quote button when you respond (the way I did to respond to this message).  This has two primary results:
  1. It makes it obvious what you're talking about, and to whom you're responding.
  2. Assuming the person you're responding to has the usual settings, he or she will get an email notifying them that they were quoted, and giving them the option of going directly to that message.
You can also use the multi-quote button when you wish to respond to several messages at once, but I generally find it easier to simply deal with them one at a time, especially when my computer is being extremely slow for some reason.

Also, if you look in the top left corner of the post you're responding to you can see exactly how old it is.

Yes, I would have gotten the heck outta here, too.  He turned himself in later that day, but still.  And yes, the gift card definitely came at a good time.  I was wondering if they would use the litter box if I dug up some dirt from outside.  LOL
