I purchased Wilderness dry as well as their canned Red Meat food. Supposed to be high in protein and grain free but it does have potatoes and peas.
Is this a good choice for kitty who already had the crystals problem requiring immediate hospitalization?
He was originally on Hills c/d prescription both dry and canned.
Is red meat diet ok for a kitty with this issue?

Hi Lulu! My cat had a urinary blockage and was put on the Royal Canin Urinary S/O, so I know where you're coming from.

He was on the Wilderness dry before the blockage but I think what caused it was the vet not giving him any wet foos during his boarding. However, I have read somewhere that Blue Buffalo seems to be causing urinary crystals but I have no idea how accurate this statement is.

What you are going to want to do is get your kitty on a 100% wet diet. Don't even bother with dry, it's high in carbs and will dehydrate your cat. Stick to proteins with fur and feathers (poultry, rabbit, lamb, etc). Fish is high in magnesium and phosphorus, which can cause kidney stones. I give my cat fish as a treat once a week or so.

Some brands I recommend are:
Weruva, Tiki Cat, ZiwiPeak, Nature's Variety (both Instinct and Pride), Nature's Logic, Merrick, Wellness CORE, Koha, Party Animal, Lotus, and if your cat is picky or your budget tight, go with the Fancy Feast Classics and the Sheba pates.

IMO, any canned food is best for a cat who is prone to urinary issues. If you can, don't feed any dry food. That can contribute to a dehdyrated body which means concentrated urine that is prone to crystals and other stuff that can cause issues. http://catinfo.org/?link=urinarytracthealth

I've also heard that Blue Buffalo has caused urinary issues in some cats but I don't know how true that is. Some cats are just prone to urinary issues no matter what they are fed.
