So basically there's a litter of kittens at some of my relatives house and they live outside in a garage (it's a complicated situation). Anyway the kittens are going to be 10 weeks old tomorrow but they are still nursing from their mom sometimes. I always thought that kittens are weaned by 8 weeks and are adopted out between 10-16 weeks depending on the breed. I have no idea what breed of cat these kittens are (maybe someone can help me out a bit with that?) The mom is black and I have no clue who the father is. I'll try and attach a picture.
Anyway I just want to make sure that I don't take the kitten away from her mom too soon.
I should also mention that the kittens have fleas and aren't living in the best conditions. I just want to take that baby home and get her dewormed and spayed and all that good stuff. (The other kittens have good homes their going to as well)
I was planning on picking my baby up tomorrow but I thought I should double check first. If you have any questions please ask!

Welcome to TCS! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Picking her up tomorrow is fine. Ten weeks is a good age. The sooner you can get her wormed and de-flead the better.

Do these relatives plan to spay the mama cat? It's time now. Otherwise the mom will have endless litters, which is not good.

Your kitten is adorable!

I'm going to be giving the kitty Revoltion for her fleas. I checked online and some sites said that it could also be used as a general dewormer? If it isn't can I use other worming medication on her while she's still on Revolution?
And the momma cat is going to be spayed asap :)
Thank you so much for replying!

Yes, Revolution treats heartworm, roundworm, and hookworms, and fleas and ear mites. It does not treat tapeworms though, which look like little grains of rice and are caused by ingesting fleas. You'll need praziquantel for the tapeworms.

Glad mama is getting fixed! When do you plan to spay your kitten? She's old enough now. [emoji]128522[/emoji]

I was also planning on giving her a bath in dawn for the fleas before we bring her home. But I'm really worried that I won't get all the fleas off of her and that is end up brining some home :/
I'm planning on giving her revolution right after her bath but I'm not sure if it starts repelling fleas as soon as

You should bring her home and give the bath at home. As soon as she is dry, put the Revolution on her. It starts working immediately.

Get some Capstar and give her one before you bring her home. That should take care of any hitchhikers :D.

She's beautiful! [emoji]128571[/emoji][emoji]128571[/emoji][emoji]128571[/emoji] I'm glad you are taking her home :)

As for her breed: she'd technically have to be classified as a Domestic Long hair, though I bet she will look sort-of similar to a Himalayan when she is older. Except she won't be flat-faced like a Himalayan.

Hopefully the Revolution works for the fleas and you get her de-wormed soon :)

Ok so here's an update on the little munchkin.
I took her home last Wednesday and got rid of the fleas and dosed her with some revolution and capstar. I also took her in to get her first set of shots and a shot for tapeworms. He cleaned up her ear mites and said she's seems very healthy :) she is a little underweight but nothing too serious. She's weighs a whole pound and 14 ounces lol

What is Capstar and is it safe? My vet put Profender on my kitten and she is having an adverse reaction. They also gave me Advantage Multi but I'm afraid to apply it for fear it may cause additional harmful reaction.

If your kitten is having an adverse reaction you need to bathe her in blue Dawn immediately to get it off her skin and fur, and alert your vet about it ASAP also.

Capstar is a pill taken internally.

I recommend Advantage II in the correct dosage based on weight.

I am concerned about 2 things tho. I noticed lately that she's been drinking a lot of water. I know what cats don't usually drink that much water but she's been drinking a lot. I read online that it could mean she has diabetes or something wrong with her kidneys :(
Also I felt her stomach today and it kind of felt hard and round. Not big though. Anyway she didn't have a round stomach when I brought her home or when I took her to the vet. But she can't have worms because I have her revolution before I brought her home.
I'm so worried about her now!

I think because she has been wormed she may finally be gaining weight. This is a good thing!
