My cat dream

I had a really strange dream last night!

I was back in my childhood home, at the back door, and I saw a strange cat. He had no collar and did not look well looked after, and I assumed he was feral. But, I put my hand out, and he came over and rubbed his face against it. I started petting him and he purred.

I told him I couldn't keep him because I had too many cats, but I would look after him until we could find him a new home. But he told me, no thank you.  It was not at all weird that a cat was talking to me   He explained that he had had a human, but that human had abandoned him, and he did not want to have a human again. He would remain free and would hunt his own food.

I was sad about this but told him he was welcome to stay in my backyard as long as he wanted and I hoped he would find all he needed. And he said thank you and we said our goodbyes.

And then I went upstairs to my room and looked out my back window and the backyard was full of little animals that would be perfect cat prey.  In real life I think I would be kind of disturbed by this, but in the dream it was almost magical - like my yard was destined to be a paradise for this little cat who wouldn't be homed.

I wonder what it all means

My recent cat dream was that I came home and my husband had a big pile of kittens. I asked him "where did all these kittens come from?" and he said "Pythagoras [one of our cats] had them." I said Pythagoras was a boy. He said I hadn't fed him enough, so he shrunk and became a girl. I told him that's not how it worked, but he said "oh yeah, then where did all these kittens come from?"
