I was just wondering because I know kittens are fed off a mother cat's milk until they are about four weeks old which is when the mother teaches them how to be an adult cat and eat adult cat food, is it alright to give a kitten that hasn't yet be weaned ( maybe about three weeks old ) wet or dry food? Will it make them sick, have other side effects or will it not harm them?

You can get KMR milk powder for your kitten. It's a replacer milk for them.

My boy, January was 3weeks old when he was rescued without his mom around. I fed him with milk powder meant for kittens. I did not get the KMR as its suppose.d to be good. I could not get it as I was in a hurry to feed my boy as he was under nourished. In between, I also gave him wet food.

After he has kind of stabilized and grown stronger, I stopped the milk powder when it has finished and up till today, he is on wet food. He's almost 9 months old now.

So I suggest that you get your kitty the KMR milk powder. Do not give cow's milk. Kittens/cats are lactose intolerant. KMR IS goat's milk.

I do not recommended giving kittens under 4 weeks old anything but kitten formula or goat's milk! They have a hard time eating, swallowing, and digesting prior to that.

In fact, many kittens are not ready to wean until they are about 5 weeks old. Their baby teeth come in at 4 weeks and this enables them to chew. However, the introduction of solids is a slow process, as they begin to need more than mom's milk to grow.

It is much easier to wean a kitten by mixing pate-style wet food with kitten milk replacer (KMR) to make it mushy and easy to lap up during the transition.

tabbytom tabbytom - KMR is not goat's milk. It is commercially produced kitten replacement milk that is formulated with exactly the vitamins and minerals a kitten needs to thrive. Goat's milk is from a goat.

Even once eating solids, most kittens continue to nurse their mamas for several more weeks!

I read about goat's milk and I remembered KMR. I think I got it mixed up
