Animals in distress, injured, or dead are upsetting only to me

I, like most others on this forum, I'm sure, love animals. I'm an adult and I realize that certain things happen in nature and things die etc. However, I see that in thr area where I live, at least, there is over-development, for one thing, and a lot of animal habitats are gone. Additionally, a lot of people just don't care or are insensitive to the ploghts of animals.
When I se an injured animal while I'm driving, I want to stop and help in some way, if I can. I get VERY angry because if I'm in the car with my brother or parents, I have to have a fight over such things.
The other day, I went to the doctor and there was a dead kitten in thr parking lot. It was probably hit by a car i checked fo see if there were other kittens but didn't see any. When I asked my doctor if he'd seen it, he said hos daughter happened to be at work eith him the day before and was upset about it. Yet, it was stil llying there and none of his other patients had mentioned it. To me, it was extremely upsetting. I don't know if I'm overly sensitive or other people are lacking compassion. Does anyone else become distressed over animals in distress or feel upset when you witness things like this? I just don't have that, "well, that's life and you can't save everything, attitude." These aren't animals on the Serengeti. If I hit a person with my car, I woukdn't drive away. Why is it acceptable to allow animals to suffer in the middle of the road? Why would you leave a dead kitten in your parking lot?

you are not alone! people tell me I'm too sensitive or to get over it or hmmm what else have I heard, you can't save them all. the world is harsh. I hate watching the nature shows because something always gets chomped on or something gets killed. I can't visit the peta website anymore because I can't handle seeing that stuff. my parents care more about their grass than life, they shoot squirrels & rabbits but feed the birds. everyone's different. I didn't make the world, it's not my rules, it's not how I would have things happen so I try not to dwell too much. when something's right in front of you though, like a dead animal or an injured animal, all we can do is help when we can.

something to offset the bad is watching the video footage of people rescuing animals or seeing that the circus isn't going to have elephants anymore or seaworld is losing their hold on orcas. change happens slowly & instead of focusing on all the negative stuff, because the majority of this world is negative stuff, try to out that stuff & focus on the good that people do.

You are definitely not alone!  And if I see something, or hear about something, it stays with me forever. I can cry myself to sleep when I start playing the old memories over and over in my head.

I think most people here feel similarly. Animal suffering is so prevalent, by human or external causes, that I think it's much easier for most people to discount it as not true or not that important. And humans so often profit from animal suffering in various ways that the guilt is often too much for us to cope with directly so people feel better writing it off as something trivial.

It is distressing to see a dead animal, but once the animal is dead there's not much we can do that would be really helpful to it. Burying it would really only benefit us to get some sense of closure, as that's not a ritual that cats have. Although one time I was riding in a car with my aunt, a vet and very sensitive person, and we pulled over because there was a dead raccoon on the side of the road. She checked to make sure it wasn't still alive and needed help, and then she moved it away from the road because she said other raccoons will sometimes gather around the body to mourn and then be at risk of getting hit by cars themselves. She had gloves and plastic bags in the car for this very reason. My cousin told me they were always late to things because her mom was always stopping to tend to animals in distress. Most people roll their eyes at her, but I think it's nice.

Yes, that's true there's nothing that can be done for a dead animal but I still don't think ir's right to leave it there like that. This is a professional office building, where people are coming and going all day. How can you have patients pasing by a dead kitten forr more than a day and not dispose of it, at least for the sake of thr patients-or just me in this case.
It is upsetting to see lbecause I know there are a lot of stray cats in the area too. So, it's a reminder of that problem as well as the fact that, it possibly could have been helped by a more conscientious and caring person, when it was first injured.

Nope, definitely not alone. I have more empathy for animals than I do a lot of humans (that is not to say all humans, but some leave a lot to be desired). I get very upset seeing a dead pet on the road, have also been told at times more upset than I should get, but that's just who I am. I think it's a good thing to have so much empathy for animals. It shows you're a good person :)

I agree with you @wannahelp  It's terrible that people would just walk past a dead or dying animal without trying to help. Did you bury the kitten? I have a few little graves in my garden for cats and kittens I've seen knocked down on the road. I can't bear to just leave them there.

I've also got some very sweet cats living with me that were sick or injured when I first found them. It's such a great feeling when you are able to do something to help.

Keep looking out for animals in distress. I'm sure there are some out there that need help from a caring person like you.

I wasn't prepared to bury anything, socI went home and drove back to the office. It seems the doctor finally took care of it somehow.
