If Rosie's playing, and she pounces on something with her front paws, she throws her head from side to side several times. I find this not only cute, but hilarious when she does it. My parents cats used to do this as well.

Any ideas?.

Rosie,
This is a throwback from her wild cousins,
the lions and tigers. This is an inherited behavior
when her cousins in the wild, capture their food
and shake it from side to side to get what they desire
from the animal they killed. Bottom line is, don't be
concerned about this! I'm sure it's very cute and
fun to watch!--persia

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
I think that motion aided our kitties' forbears in getting a better grip or even breaking the prey's neck. Not sure though. HOWEVER, when in play, it is absolutely charming! We get such a kick out of it too! One of our kitties also "buries" his food by dragging his paw on the floor around it - even pawing the air over it!
After doing that for several months, he then started UN-burying the food before eating it, LOL!

Flowerbelle shakes her head with each bite of food she takes - which, of course, sends the kibble flying. She then drops what is in her mouth to go chasing after it. Delightful though quite messy!

Willow buries stuff too! She doesn't play very much, but she always tries to bury her food, but she only suceeds in draping the place mat thing over it (which kinda works, I guess...)

Buffy does the shaking thing though. Fun to watch! But then again, everything Buffy does is fun to watch!

W/ the best cats
As an owner of outdoor cats, I've seen this behavior everytime they succeed in catching prey.
