I am fostering a mama with 5 five week old kittens who both nurse and eat canned food. Mom's belly is swollen and lumpy and I just felt a heart beat. We have a vet appointment on Tuesday. In the meantime, do I start separating mom from her current Litter?

No, if she has another kitten gestating inside her she is still fine to nurse the 5-week-olds. They very much still need their mom.

However, if another kitten is born, just make sure the older kittens do not bully the newborn off a nipple. At that point they may need to nurse separately. The older kittens also will not need to nurse as frequently or as long as a newborn.

Poor mama kitty!

Thanks. This is how I was leaning. I feel so sorry for mama, she is probably only a year old. I keep promising her this is the very last time.
