Hi everyone,

My girl is 62 days pregnant with her second litter. She miscarried her first one last year after being attacked by a stray tom so I've kept her in through this whole pregnancy.

Today she's been calling a lot, purring, and washing constantly.

She's a good girl and is happy to let me take her temp and it's dropped to 36.3. I've read this can mean she's due to deliver soon. Just wondering if any of you have experienced this and how long roughly it was before your cat was in labour?

I've had pregnant cats before and delivered kittens but she's a funny one. She's not done any nesting so I'm just a bit anxious about leaving her as I've got no idea where she will have them. Plus she had a rough time when she miscarried her first litter so I want to stay really close to her.

Do you think this temperature means I shouldn't leave her?

Thanks

Temperature is not always the most reliable indicator as it can go up and down in the days prior to delivery. The average cat pregnancy is 65 days, so it could be sometime in the next few days.

If you need to leave her, put her in a room that is safe with a nest while you are gone. Since she is near term, you may want to stay close.

Are you a breeder?

No I'm not a breeder. I've fostered stray mums though and kept the kittens until they were ready etc.

This is my first attempt at breeding to some extent. She's half Norwegian forest cat so she's been mated with my friend's male. She's a beautiful cat. Already have a queue of people wanting the kittens! She's been neutered after this litter though.

She's been hiding behind the sofa purring like a trooper which is really unlike her so I've moved her into my bedroom. She's completely ignoring all the nesting areas I've made her though. My other girl gave birth on the kitchen floor though so I'm not too surprised!

If she's hiding and purring like that, she may be in labor and purring to help herself through the pain. I'd stay close by!

Yeah I've been sat with her petting her and she's lying there purring but no signs of discharge or contractions but she's also not getting up. Just laid my hand on her belly and can feel the kittens wriggling about. I think she's close to going into labour if she's not in labour already. This morning she woke me up at 5 calling to me which she never ever does and I thought that was her starting but then she settled down.
