Marriage can be nice. God knows it can also be hell. Agreeing to marriage doesn't necessarily mean that you want a man to take care of you. There's a lot more to it than that.
I agree
Many people marry for reasons other than needing someone to take care of you etc. When those relatives ask, they mean that all of my life needs can only be provided by a man and they disapprove of my choice to stay single. It's like to them there's some rule that all women must be married and being married shows how successful you are in life and that beng single for life is some horrible thing.

Adding, just like I said about kids not being the right life decision for me, marriage is the same. Being asked about my life decisions and disapproving of them is a huge pet peeve ad really isn't anyone's business.

It's absolutely nobody's business. Some folks are uncomfortable with people who do things differently. It makes them uneasy that maybe they are too conventional. Best to ignore them.

My latest pet peeve is potential employers who interview you and then never contact you again. It is just so infuriatingly rude and disrespectful and unprofessional. If I take the trouble to attend an interview, even over Skype, then I EXPECT a formal decision. It costs nothing to send a polite refusal email, WHY don't people do it? I was just offered a job by a company that interviewed me two months ago. I accepted it because it's the job I wanted but COME ON!! Two months is far too long for no response. The other FIVE companies I interviewed with have not contacted me since the interview. It really grinds my gears.

Also, banking hours. ***, banks? My local branch is reducing its hours so that it will only be open between 9.30 and 4.30. How is anyone with a job expected to get to the bank? SO ANNOYING! Actually, opening hours in general in the UK is a frustrating topic for me. My small town is shut up tight by 5.30 and most places don't open until 10, some 9. So again, if you work standard hours you're screwed. The result is that everyone and their great aunt descends on the high street on Saturday morning and it's complete madness. If the shops just stayed open a few hours later during the week it would be so much better.

Amen. That reminds me of an old saying- "Those who matter don't mind. Those who mind don't matter". Still as true as ever.

We live in  suburb of a small city in the south west and we have the same issue. If you want to go to a bank, you're pretty much going to have to travel on the Saturday. Luckily I have an app and I work in the city centre. I can get most of what I need to do done this way, If I want to pay off any of my student overdraft however I have to make an appointment with a clerk who will then make an appointment with someone else for me to do so.

The amount of times I've come [ ] this close to yelling "I AM TRYING TO PAY YOU MONEY!!" Is growing.

An employee in a store or office who answers the phone while taking care of me. When I call those stores/offices and get the recording that they are busy helping another customer, or an immediate answer of " Can you hold?" I know someone else is ahead of me. The person you're already talking to is supposed to get your full attention until they are finished. Professional people don't know common courtesy any more.

The same thing with cell phone calls and texts. When someone I'm with answers them, I feel like saying " You have to talk to them now because they happened to call now? You like to always be available to talk or text even when you are with someone else? ". That's the same as someone walking up and butting into your conversation and your friend stops talking to you and only talks to them.

In some stores the cashiers can get in trouble if the phone is not answered after three rings.  I have always handled the phone call quickly by either paging someone else to pick it up to answer the question or letting the customer on the phone know I am with another customer and will be with them in a moment.  I do not let the phone ring and force people to listen to voicemail.  Sometimes stores do not have the level of staffing needed to function correctly too.

I agree that it is rude to text people or talk on the phone when you are out with someone else.

I also hate it when people sit at the table in a group setting and play video games on their phone.

Hearing people eat.  I absolutely cannot stand to hear chewing and smacking and wet eating sounds.

I seem to be fine in large gatherings or restaurants but when I'm at home with just me and my boyfriend, sometimes he drives me insane.  He's a noisy eater.  Sometimes I end up having to go into the other room because it grates on my nerves so badly.

Also, I hate being on hold.

Exactly!! Finally someone understands my hate towards that too! :lol3:

I hate it.  It grosses me out like you wouldn't believe.  And sometimes John chews with his mouth open.  I swear, those are the moments I consider dumping him.

People who go out in public wearing next to nothing
Yesterday I saw a college-aged man walking around with nothing but an open button up shirt (nothing underneath the shirt and, no, he did not have a buff chisled body), patriotic skimpy Speedos, socks pulled up to his calves, and boots wth the laces untied
His "arm candy" (blonde female friend attached to his arm) was wearing more clothes than him in a shirt that covered everything and not too short shorts.

And don't forget the guy with the huge, hairy belly who thinks he has to mow his postage-stamp sized yard on this ginormous riding mower....with no shirt. Or the woman who thinks it's OK to stuff her size 16 body into a pair of size 8 jeans. That's some serious muffin top. Some things you just don't want to see. Whenever we're in a store and a woman like that walks by, Rick looks at me and says, "And you worry." We were in Target yesterday and a woman walked by in a pair of jeans that were obviously way too small. With a tank top that was obviously way, way too small. Rick looked at me and I said, "Yes, dear. I worry."

Yeah, seeing that stuff grosses me out.  I will admit - I have been known to wear some skimpy clothes.  Still, mine don't even compare to some of the things I have seen people in.  And I'm a size 0 - some of my size 0 shorts and jeans are loose enough that I have to wear a belt.

Which brings me to another personal peeve.  People who say things like "Meat is for men, bones are for dogs."  Curvy ladies have every right to be proud of their bodies, but why do they have to put others down in the process?  I don't say degrading things to or about curvy women.  I don't diet or exercise myself into the ground.  I'm one of those really lucky people with an insanely high metabolism.  I eat whatever I want whenever I want and I don't gain weight.  On top of that, my pancreas processes sugar too quickly, causing me to be hypoglycemic, so I'm always eating to avoid getting sick.

And having people say snarky things if I buy a salad or some other healthy food.  I adore greasy, cheesy burgers, but I also like salads.  I like fruits and veggies.  I was raised on balanced, home-cooked meals so that's what I still eat.  I get some exercise by walking around a bit, but that's it.

Why can't people be proud of your bodies and the way they look without putting someone else down?  And why put down guys who prefer a certain body type?  Or ladies who do, for that matter.  We can't control what we are attracted to.

I have the exact opposite problem. I am a size 20-22. I have a severe case of Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. My body produces such a small amount of Thyroid hormone that I can barely metabolize anything. Thus, it is sooooooo easy for me to gain weight even though I go to the gym and work out at least 4 days a week.

I hate the way people look at me when I am out to eat and I don't necessarily order the healthiest thing on the menu. I get stares and looks that say "She shouldn't be eating that." I am always so self conscious about eating in front of people, especially if what I am eating isn't super healthy because again, I get stares and I feel like people are thinking "Well no wonder she's fat! Look what she's eating!"

Once, I was walking around campus drinking a Frappuccino from starbucks and a bunch of guys rolled past me on skateboards and one of them yelled "Eat a salad fatt***!" And all his friends started laughing like it was the funniest thing ever.

It just irks me because people see people like ne and just assume we have poor eating habits/dont exercise. I wish people would consider that there are in fact medical conditions that affect the way people can gain or lose weight.

As long as people are saying that other people's bodies "gross them out", I think body acceptance is a long way off :tongue2:.

Another one of my biggest pet peeves - being told I'm doing something wrong when I'm not!

So, I conduct surveys.  That's my job.  I did this same job for 2 years when I was younger.  I've been here for almost a year this time around.  We have to read the survey verbatim.  We have to read the pat responses verbatim.  One in particular is different depending on where you are in the survey.  I know that is how it is to be done and I checked with the main supervisor - the woman who handles a lot of the interviews and does ALL of the training for this project.  She has been working there for AT LEAST 15 years.  She told me that I am doing it right.  Of course I have monitors who listen to a certain percentage of my calls.  This one monitor keeps marking me down for the way I am doing that pat response.  She became a monitor about 3 months ago.  It's driving me nuts.

Agree with you on the food thing! I eat no soda, candy, fast food, etc. No added sugar. I use to but I switched almost a year ago, I have no known health problems but I wanted this for me. I hate it when I'm with people and they look stunned like I'm not suppose to not eat candy/soda/fast food, I politely decline but still. Or people that try to convert me back. No.

Ignore those jerks. It is no one's business what you choose or don't choose to eat except for you and your doctor. I sometimes splurge on certain things...it's no one's business if I want to eat a jar of peanut butter and drink a beer at 1:00 in the morning (I only did this once LOL).

Be proud of yourself regardless of what others say. I get mean comments too sometimes. I say screw 'em and continue on with my life. ;)
