Not as fun as it sounds, everyone can agree with me about this. We have a dog with us too. We experimented with having her out and during the twenty minutes she freaked out and tried to climb on my mother, who is the one driving. So we put her in her carrier. She meowed and yowled until finally falling asleep after an hour. We stopped every two hours to let the dog go, and we put Freya in her litter box in the truck. Wasn't gonna happen. She growled at everything that went past and did not even attempt to go.

We stopped for the night, and for everyone who is traveling through Fargo, there's a hotel in Fargo where if they say pets allowed, cats are included! She got pretty comfy in the hotel room, and now we're back on the road.

In my experience, the cats will just go into suspended animation and sleep for about 8 hours straight when traveling.  Unlike dogs, they don't usually eat or drink or pee on the trip.  Mine all wait for the motel and the litter box, then wake up slowly so that when I am about to fall asleep, they are bouncing off the walls.  I always line the traveling carriers with disposable human incontinence pads in case of an accident.  They are very inexpensive and large.

Well we tried again today with her being out of her carrier, she handled it a lot better. Also she did go pee and then pooped in the litter box. We uh, had to sneak her into a hotel fortunately our last stretch is tomorrow.
