Hello everyone.

Monday was the hardest day of my life. I had taken Bandit in for sub q fluids and antinausea meds, as he wasn't eating and still throwing up. Pepcid AC did help, but he wasn't interested in food and really not feeling well.

The vet and I had to have the talk about the fact that we were doing all we could, and that there was one thing we hadn't ruled out, which was cancer. The tests were not possible given the location of the clinic and costs, along with the simple fact that there was no guarantee with this test (ultra sound and needle biopsy of the small intestinal lining). With Bandit's mega colon, ultrasounds aren't going to see as much given he has stool in him.

I wasn't going to put him through it anyway. So, I brought him home and he went to sleep under the bed. We did give him a b-12 shot since that really did stimulate his appetite more than the appetite stimulant.

He wasn't eating and was very lethargic. He looked just....unwell. I took a nap while he slept under my bed, and I woke to realize that he wasn't getting any better. He was uncomfortable and unhappy and I couldn't keep him with me --I couldn't put him through that. So, I made the call to the vet clinic---they come to your home to euthanize, which I had to opt for not because I prefer it, but because I was too upset to drive. I had to wait for 3 hrs since it was very busy at the clinic.

I was hysterical after I got off the phone. Crying so hard, and I looked up and saw Bandit crawl out from under my bed and come over to me, wide eyed with worry. He then came over and rubbed up against my leg (albeit wobbly). I picked him up and cuddled him (His sister was laying in the living room with me and she also licked him when he came out) and told him I loved him too much to let him suffer, and that he needed to eat or he'd get really sick and that would be horrid.

And he then wanted down and he went to his food dish and ate 2 bites of food. Um, yeah. So, I called the vet and canceled the euthanasia.  It was pretty clear Bandit was not ready to leave us.

I gave him pain meds later that evening along with Pepcid AC, and by 12:30am, he licked up some food I'd bought that had a lot of gravy (Fancy Feast) He licked it dry, which to me, was a good sign.

At dawn Tuesday morning, he woke me up, paw on my face, purring. And when I fed him this time,  he gobbled up the food. I continued to give him Pepcid AC before his prednisone and ciscipride to help control any issues that might have, and he seemed to do much better. He was eating well--still very tired but coming out for food and a few cuddles, then sleeping heavily. Monday night, he even stayed in my living room on mouse patrol.

It's now early Friday morning. Bandit is no longer taking bupe or pepcid AC. Just prednisone 2x daily and his ciscipride for megacolon. He is eating and far more interested in things. He's currently with me out on my couch in my porch with a beautiful night breeze, purring and helping me type this.

I can't say now if the Pepcid AC helped to rest his pancreas enough for him to allow it to recover, or if something else was flushed or....I don't know. I really don't. I can't image b-12 can have that much of an affect on a kitty. The fact it took almost a day to work lead me to think that it wasn't going to work at all--that it was just a fluke last time.

All I can say is I wish all your kitties the best and not to ignore your kitties needs and listen to them. My first kitty let me know when she had to go--she crawled over to me when she couldn't walk anymore (renal failure) and I knew. I knew it was her time...just as I know this Monday it was NOT Bandit's time. <3

OMG, I started bawling at the beginning of this and by the end, I was crying even harder but they were happy tears.  I'm crying so hard I can barely see to type this, but it's wonderful news!  I'm so very happy for you!

Oooh! @Alicia88   You are too sweet <3 <3.

I don't know how long Bandit has left with me, but he told me loudly he doesn't want to go. It was heartbreaking to see Monday before his turn for the better, that he was staring at the house, in different rooms..as if to take it all in because he knew he'd be leaving soon. He's currently curled up on the rug in front of my couch, face down asleep in his new catnip mouse. Unfortunately, his sister has the runs from a diet change and I do too, likely from stress and probably something I ate. Meh, I"ll take Skye to the vet to just be sure it's just a diet issue--I've taken up all new food and left her regular food---it was more for Bandit's needs.

Gotta love long weekends ;)

I'd probably be a mess from stress, too.  And sitting here with Murphy snuggled in the crook of my harm just like a small child and Connor curled up by my head, I can't handle the thought that I'm going to lose them someday.  They'll be 6 months old on the 4th, so I still have a lot of years, God willing.  It's just such a shame that cats and other pets don't live as long as we do.

I am so glad your baby is doing better. Might try some baby food the meat only no veggies. Usually contains some broth and it kinda helps get a sick kitty to eat. Praying for recovery.

Thank you @Alicia88  and @Tico  . He's doing well--eating new food I got from the vet. Now it's more about his megacolon and getting him to poop, but that I can manage.

I was like that when I got these two Alicia and I just told myself : Love them. Just enjoy these wonderful moments as they are kittens and through the years, because one day, 18 yrs will pass and you will suddenly realize they grew up :) <3

With my boy Sven, my 2nd kidney cat, I always told him I'd let him go when he told me he was ready.  Every time he refused to eat I'd ask him if he was ready to go.  He'd immediately start eating

Well...until the last time I asked, and he turned his back on me
.    That was four years ago

I'm so glad Bandit has taken a turn for the better

@mrsgreenjeens  ---I'm so sorry for your loss. My boy is not ready to leave. He got sub q fluids today and b-12 early since Monday is a holiday and he's perked even more.

Both my kitties are having good days and I'm so happy for that.

Enjoy all the good days you can. I hope you have many of them. I had to say goodbye to my Persil two weeks ago and I regret greatly that when I took her to the vet just two days previously that she would leave me so soon. I would have loved time to spoil her.

@JennyR  I am SO SO sorry for your loss. I am savoring every moment I have with Bandit.  He's a fighter and continues to fight whatever is going on inside him. We are having loads of cuddles and snuggles and he lays on me for a bit at night before bed. :) His sister, Skye is doing very well... I have to say I am very lucky and hesitated on making this post, but I wanted to to let people know to make sure you listen to your kitties :)

You are so right about listening. I have just come back dem the vet with my Dushka. I knew there was something wrong, she was telling me so with her body language and her voice, but the vet said no, it was just htat she already has a kidney condition. But I insisted on an xray and she actually has kidney stones! Whole different treatment. WE always know best, the owners, who live with their love and trust all day every day.

@JennyR   Oh WOW! That's amazing you knew something else was wrong-but I'm the same. I know in my gut when I need to insist on something. How do they treat a kidney stone for a kitty? Poor kitty! And you!! I had a kitty with kidney disease back in the late 90s and all I could do was give her IV fluids at the time. She was a trouper :) I still miss her.

Poor kitty!  I've had kidney stones tons of times and they HURT!!!  Not quite as painful as a lacerated spleen, but close.
