Does this look like ringworm?

My kitty has this spot on his fur. The hair is gone and it looks rough, dark with some stringy looking dandruff (?). I've attached a picture. He doesn't seem to be bothered by it. I'll take him to the vet but everything I could see online showed ringworm as pink or skin colored, not black so I have no idea what this is.
