Just a quick update. It's 4 days since the first kitten arrived and 3 for the second. They are all doing really well. Mina is eating, drinking and using the litter tray all normally. This afternoon she actually left them for ten minutes to have a walk about and even played with us with her favourite toy! Kittens are gaining lots of weight (143g and 146g). Here's the latest photo of the happy family

Mom does look quite content! Can you keep her completely inside and away from intact males until her kittens have weaned?

I assume you mean walking around the house, but just checking!

Oh yes talkingpeanut, I do mean around the house. We will definitely be getting her spayedas soon as she is able to be. Her appointment was booked but she was already pregnant and we decided to go ahead with the pregnancy. We would have done it sooner but we took in another female cat a few months back and it turned out that she hadn't been spayed either and were advised to have them both done at the same time so we were giving the cat (lola) time to settle in with Mina and we were all set for it to happen, Mina got out and the rest is history!!!

Hi please help. My 5 day old kitten seems to have got its umbilical pulled. It looks like something that is on the inside has been pulled out. I called the emergency vet and it said it had to be seen. I fully understand but as it is nearly 11pm (uk) the emergency vet is an hour away, I have no car until the morning. Any advice on helping through the night!?? I will be able to take to my vet in the morning, 10 minutes away, less stress for travelling kitten and would mum and other kitten have to go too? There was some bleeding which has stopped. It has fed and moving fine. Mum hasbeen licking it and the kitten cried a fair bit. All sleeping now. What's the best thing to do? Thanks.

Sorry. I haven't got one yet. I'm reluctant to pick up the kitten incase I hurt it or touch the wrong place. They are just waking up a bit, hopefully get one very soon. Thank you

I understand. Please be very careful.

I'm not sure there is much you can do until morning. It must have been painful for the baby. Any idea how it happened?

If it is intestines, it will probably require surgery to put them back in. I hope the baby does not suffer shock overnight. Is there any way to cover the area until morning so it does not get irritated?

What do you suggest covering it with. Will mum lick it off?

Gauze and tape perhaps? How much of the internal workings are outside? Is it a tiny bit or more?

Its hard to gauge. It's between 1/2 cm and 1cm. It's straight, not wide.

Okay. I think it best not to disturb the kitten unless necessary. Hopefully, the baby will make it through the night okay.

Can you be at the vet when doors open tomorrow? Wait, is your vet open on Sundays?

Yes, it opens at 10:30. I'll start calling at 10:00 and hope someone answers the phone. 9 anxious hours. I've got my fingers and toes crossed. Thanks for your help.

Hi. So, been to the vets this morning
Turns out to kitten who's a boy, has an umbilical infection. Have to administer antibiotics twice a day and go back on Thursday to see how he's doing. They were really pleased with his weight but realistically they said his survival is 50/50 because of his age. Fingers crossed. Thanks for your support.

Oh, I'm actually relieved that it's not his intestines on the outside, but sorry he has such a raging infection.

Which antibiotics did the vet give?

I'm praying that the baby makes it!
