Hi. I'm new to the site. Have been reading through loads of threads, could do with some advice please. My lovely girl is pregnant. I don't know how far along exactly but have seen kittens moving in her for best part of two weeks. No milk but her back two nipples are very "full looking ". We have a few nesting places set up for her that's she explores every now and then. She spends all her time sleeping. Gets up to use the litter tray and eat. Any suggestions to how close she is to delivery??

Judging by hoe long you've been seeing movement, I'd say sometime within the next week or two. Can you post some pictures so that we can see her to make a more accurate guess? And also just cause I'm sure she's super cute and i want to see her haha.

I'd say any day now - up to a week.

[article="31496"]How Do I Know When My Cat Will Give Birth[/article]   Don't bother taking her temp.  It is an unreliable indicator.

do you have supplies on hand yet?  Basic supplies recommended:  KMR (Kitten mothermilk replacer), small needleless syringe, and a small kitchen scale that measures in grams or 0,0 ounces.  Most scales let you use either one.

Thanks for all the reading advice. I have all the things you said apart from KMR and syringes. I live in the UK. Is it still called the same thing?

Hi lurkysmum. I will try and get a photo tomorrow. It's 11pm here (UK). I'm off to bed. Mina is asleep facing the wrong way. Here's a photo of her from last week so you can see what she looks like (a bit).

You can get goat's milk, too.  Anything but cow's milk.  KMR is kitten milk replacer.  I foster kittens and have taken in many pregnant mommas and have rarely had issues with newborns so don't fret it.  Mommas usually do a very good job of caring for their babies.  The one occasion I had when a kitten was rejected, it turned out it was not viable and died despite my best efforts.  We do what we can but we leave the rest up to momma and God.

Hi. Just a quick update. Still doing her usual routine and visited her nest again. Is it more likely fo her to go into labour at night? I have a very busy house and was wondering if she will put off labour when no one is around or could it begin any time of day, especially with the weekend here and more people around.

It could be anytime really. It depends on the cat. She may feel more comfy giving birth with the house busy, or she may wait until the quiet of night. Or, she may let Mother Nature take the lead, and have her kittens exactly when her body directs her to rather than holding off. It will be a surprise! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Thanks sarthur2. I'm sure it will be a surprise :-o I can't wait. When I have a free minute I just tend to watch her (usually sleeping) like she's one of my own children!!

Hi all. It's been an eventful couple of hours. After acting rather odd for a couple of hours, Mina's leaked alot of fluid lost her mucus plug and started contracting and pushing all within 45 mins. First kitten born at 1:50 didnt survive much to our sadness and efforts. It came out presenting a tail and two feet for 15 mins then the body delivered head still inside. Within that time she already chewed through the umbilical cord and it was another 5 mins before the head came out. Do you think that's why it didn't survive? Then at 2:30 no.2 arrived. All good so far. It's now 4:30 and the kitten hasn't fed. Is this Ok? Think she'll have already one more baby but can't tell as they are snuggled up.

It sounds like the kitten remained in the birth canal too long without oxygen. If this happens again, when mama pushes with a contraction, you can very gently pull the kitten out.

Have you tried guiding the live kitten to a nipple? It needs to nurse! If not, you'll need to feed the kitten yourself ASAP!

Thanks for the advice. The kitten has been feeding about 45 mins now. They seem very content together. No more kittens yet. A bit of a waiting game now I suppose. Thank you

Mummand baby doing well. It's been 11 hours and no more kittens. I'm pretty sure we can see movement still. Should I be worried? What I am concerned about is my daughter thinks she just saw a flea on Mina. She was due to have her advocate 2 weeks ago but obviously couldn't give it to her. If there are fleas what's best treatment for mum and baby?

The other babies will come when they are ready. Try not to worry. It could be a day or two. Glad mum and baby are well!

Go ahead with her regular flea treatment. It is best to kill the fleas now. They are harmful to tiny kittens. Do not put flea treatment on any kittens though.

When Mina went for a vet check up about 3 weeks ago they said not to give advocate while she's pregnant so if she's going to have another kitten I'm not sure thats the best way to go!!??

Here is a photo of new baby. Mum and baby both doing well, still no sign of any more. She had some spotting would this indicate it's on its way or not?

Then wait until all kittens are born. It will be safe then.

It's hard to say on the spotting. Cats spot for a week or so after giving birth, so it could be from delivering the first kitten, or she could be laboring to deliver another. Just keep an eye out.

Are you sure she has more?

The kitten is precious!

Sarthur2, I'd like to thank you so much for your guidance. Mina has had another kitten. It presented itself feet and tail first again and with your know how I was able to help it out along with the contraction. So thank you so much!! :-)
