Hi everyone :wavey:

I can't believe it's the 1st of September already :jaw: This year is going far to quick

Anyway, today's question is .........

Who is the best cook in your family ?

This is a tough one for me. My grandma was the best at baking, but I would have to say that the best cook in my family overall would be my eldest brother. :D

I guess my sister would have to be the best cook in my family but the reality is that we are all mediocre compared to my late mother.  She was gifted in the kitchen and effortlessly turned out gourmet meals.  I still miss some of her creations - they don't taste the same, no matter what I do!

since it's only me in my family (and my cats), by default i'd be the best cook. i do okay with cooking, but i love baking. nothing particularly fancy here, my goal is good wholesome food.

Ooh - hard one. I know my uncle's pretty good (his first wife was a professional chef, and he learned a lot from her), but I've never actually eaten any of his food (except once as a little kid) - we're not a great family for big get-togethers! My late grandmother was very good too, by all accounts, but again, I can't make personal comment on that.

My parents say I'm good (especially when it comes to coeliac friendly recipes), and people do seem to love my baking, especially :dk: Mum always says I'm better than she is at it, anyway :lol3:

Me. Far and above. Everyone cooks pretty well; my siblings are all extremely capable (parents gone). However, I do think I'm the most intuitive and experimental of all of us.  If I'd known becoming a chef was a possibility when I was younger I may have gone to culinary school.

Having said that, I'm not a baker at all since I'm not really into desserts; I prefer the main dishes.  My youngest sister has a knack for creating really great sweets.

LOL...I'm the only cook in my family.  Hekitty isn't big on cooking, so it's a default position.  However, both of my ex's were chefs, and they were better all-round cooks than I, although my "specials" were nothing to turn up one's nose at.

Me. I'm not bragging, honest. It's me. I can either follow a recipe or wing-it as the case may be. I really enjoy cooking. And I can bake a good cookie, too.

My sister is the best gardener in the family by far; she buys all the "dead" plants on the cart at Lowes, brings them home and, in a week, they're all on their way back to perfect health. So we each have our own activities that we're good at and that we enjoy.

Rick can cook, but he prefers not to, if he can get away with it. My MIL can't cook since she went into assisted living.

It's all the dudes in my family
My two uncles from my maternal side, my father, my male cousins etc. Lovely and happily eager cooks. Us ladies either were not good cooks nor cared much for cooking. I'm part of the latter.

Aaaaawwww yeeeaaah!

(I can bake though, as future equal-marital-life-partner-quality compensation)

My daughter-in-law is the best cook, and a gourmet one at that. Anything she cooks is fantastic. She even puts a homemade spread on a sandwich, making it out of sight. At six, my grandson complained, "You're always cooking." It's true.

My mom and my brother are the best. My dad and I aren't gifted in that area.

It's probably a tie between my mother and my Aunt; now that Gram has passed on.  There are no bad cooks in our family.  Gram ran served amazing meals out of her tiny kitchen for close to 60 years before her health turned.  Grandpa could hold his own.  And every child and grandchild and some of the older great-grandchildren were well trained.

Everywhere I go; if people know both my mother and I, they comment about the food or baked goods she brings.  Even the hair salon.  The owner will tell my kids "Your Nonie makes the best ____!"
My friend's sister used to ask for Stuffed Shells all the time. Mom would laugh and let her know when she made them.  When I was in college; if a group of my friends ended up at our house, Mom and my Step-dad would start cooking.  We never asked or expected; they just loved doing it.

Mom and I used to work together.  Man oh man I ate well back then!
Actually back then DH and I were newlyweds and when we got home from work he'd ask me what my mother was serving for dinner that night!  I've never served that man a bad meal in his life!  But I didn't mind.  Mom's cooking is just that good.

Not me. Really not me, I can't even make toast without burning myself. My sister doesn't cook. Neither does my brother.

If you come and visit any of us bring a packed lunch.

I'm the best in the family for good, old fashioned meals. I love to bake homemade bread and am canning apple filling as I speak for this winter. I am by far the best gardener, my whole family gives me poor wilted house plants to resurrect, I'm usually successful! My husband really enjoys cooking too, and is very good, so we share the cooking all the time. He was a chef at a Holiday Inn when he was younger and knows his way around a kitchen. In the summer when we are so busy, (and so tired!) we eat out a lot and travel to surrounding towns to do so. The winter is the time for baking and experimenting!

Me. When we look back at holiday pictures, there is always one around my dining room table. So many people, elbow to elbow. In our first house, the dining room was small and when I added in the table leaves, there was no room on the table for the food because there were so many plates and glasses. All the food was lined up on the kitchen counter and someone on the outside had to keep the plates refilled. :lol3:

Me :anon: with one of my brothers being a close second. My other brother has now been dating someone from Brazil for almost a year. I was very excited for a get together at his house thinking :woo: cool ethnic food. She doesn't like to cook and she says she isn't good at it. :(

I would say of those still living it would me.  Looking at those who have passed on then it would be my grandmother on my mother's side.  I have a daughter-in-law who thinks she is a very good cook, I would say that she is maybe fair with a few things but not good.  Of course I keep that to myself, eat what she has made and keep my real thoughts about the food to myself.

That's so funny to me. My brother (also a good cook) has an ex wife who is Brazilian. I don't remember her ever making a meal but they sure did love going out to eat at the many great Brazilian restaurants near their home.  His current partner/whatever is Persian.  She is a pretty poor cook also. Good thing my brother knows how.

Come to think of it, his 1st wife was no wiz in the kitchen either. I'm sensing a pattern LOL
