Does anyone know where I can find laws on how many animals (specifically cats) you can keep? I looked up pet laws in california and none of them said anything about how many you can have. I just want to make sure I am not breaking any laws!

That is usually governed by local ordinance, either city or county. Where I live, if you have more than 4 dogs or cats, you must get a kennel or cattery license, which is subject to County Health Dept. scrutiny.

hmm, I have been trying to look everywhere for information like this, I just don't know where else to start...Oh well, I guess I will keep on trying!

A good place to ask would be the new guest forum Hissy has coming in from an Animal control. The instructions say to include where you live so they can answer questions correctly for laws in your area.

Ok thank you, I was hoping I could find it on my own, I didn't want to bug Mr. Kumpf on something small like that, but it looks like I have to since this is the hardest thing to find on earth!!! Thank you again.

See if you can find the website for your city or county, and then look up Animal Control, for the local animal codes, or try looking under Code Compliance or similar subjects.

You might also try calling an area animal shelter or vet clinic - they'll usually have that info, or should be able to direct you to someone who will know.

Just looked online and Sacramento does not have their City Codes online. This would be a local issue, so you would have to contact your local Animal Control Shelter. They would know the laws pertaining to any pet limits.
