So a few hours ago when my mom was leaving for work I had to do a head count of our cats to make sure none of them went in the garage and noticed one was missing. My mom had already backed out so I decided to go check the back yard because anytime she gets out she always goes to the shed for some reason.
I aimed my flashlight at the shed and saw her crawl under the door so I went up to the door and rubbed my fingers together cause that's the only way I know how to get her to come to me but she didn't come out, she meowed but it sounded a little bit off, like different. I kept calling her but she wouldn't come out so I thought maybe she got hurt or something so I ran back into the house to get the keys and went and unlocked the shed but she wasn't there.
Me and my brother spent probably 10 minutes looking in and around the shed and he found her still inside hiding behind some wood which I found weird, she always meows when you call her but she was silent the whole time.
He got her to back out from behind the wood but when I got close to her she growled at me, she never growls, not even when I rescued her years ago from under some work bench and she was even injured yet didn't growl at me like this.
She freaked out and swerved away from me and climbed to the top with a puffed up tail where we couldn't reach, it took us probably half an hour to finally get her down but she was still acting like she didn't know us, trying to claw out of my brothers arms, not vicious though it was more like she was scared. My brother went to take her inside and I told him to put her in our dogs cage, but when I came in she seemed mostly normal, her tail wasn't puffed up anymore and she meowed and purred or whatever but she still seems a bit off.
Is there something wrong with my cat? Did she somehow contract rabies or did she really not recognize us was she too freaked out to realize who we were?
