My poor cat is sitting at the vet getting an iv with fluids for at least the next 2 days because she had pollen all over her face/chest. I didn't know an Asiatic lily & a yellow hibiscus were placed in water & left on the kitchen counter. When we got home, flowers were on the floor & guilty kitty was covered in yellow pollen. I'm hoping the pollen was from the hibiscus & not the lily. Anyway, needless to say I'm a wreck. From the time we left til the time we got back was only about 2 hours & kitty made it to the vet within another 2 hours. NOT FUN!

I don't have houseplants or flowers in my home, problem is I don't have a home, I'm staying with people & the whole house is full of plants & such. Watching my other 2 to make sure they act normal. I highly doubt anyone ingested any of the flowers, I think she just moved it from bowl of water to floor. I have to go down to the vet in a couple hours to give food & bring a blanket, I don't think my cat will eat that crap food science diet they typically feed.

I do hope your kitty is doing fine. Some plants and flowers are toxic to cats. Hopefully she did not ingest any of it.
Well it's not your home and it's hard to tell the owners what to do. Hopefully your kitties will learn to stay away from the plants and flowers.

How is your kitty doing?   You were wise to get her to the vet right away.  Sending best wishes that she is okay.

thank you, I have been a wreck.

I haven't been to see her, I dropped her off at around 130 & they took her to the back right away. I've been so upset, I didn't want to see her & then say goodbye. I've read that about 18 hrs is when they'll show symptoms if they've been poisoned. 18 hrs is like 4 in the morning so when I wake up tomorrow, I am going to see her to see if she's normal or acting weird. I called to see if she has eaten anything & they said no. she barely ever goes without eating so that's huge to me. :(

the more I read, the more I seem to cry. I found this british website & all the posters are commenting on what they've dealt with, some cats were lost, 1 yr old, 5 year old, it's heart breaking. Protocol seems to be the same everywhere, iv fluids, re-check blood work 48 hrs & 72 hrs. One person posted that when they were weaning off fluids, the cat's creatine levels increased. It's just a waiting game.

Another thing that's weird is the vet told me they don't have any medication to make a cat vomit. they said charcoal doesn't work that well & kitties don't take it. on the british site, people were saying the opposite, the dr made the kitty vomit & this one person took charcoal & mixed with water & syringed her kitty. it's strange to me that there isn't ONE medication out there to make a cat vomit??? that just doesn't seem reasonable.

I went & visited her this morning, she was shaking when I touched her. She still hasn't eaten, now they're going to force feed her! I asked if maybe something in the fluid is causing her to be nauseous or feel full or something, nope. They feel she's super freaked out. Why wouldn't she be, they have cats & dogs in the same area & the dogs are barking constantly. I wish there was a cat only hospital where the environment was better, I don't think I will ever take her back to this place again. They feel they know my cat better than me & they don't. She's also peeing where she's sleeping. The litter box is just a few steps away but she won't get up to use it. Totally NOT normal. 48 hours seems to be the minimum so she'll be there at least til tomorrow morning. They checked her blood & kidneys are fine. I'm afraid if that will change when fluid is stopped.

I was there for about 45 minutes. Near the end of the visit, she was purring, nursing in her fuzzy blanket, she was so much more calm & then I had to leave her again. Just heartbreaking.

I'm so sorry she's having such a rough time.  It does sound like she's doing okay medically, though.  Perhaps it would help if you took her one of her toys and a nice dirty shirt of yours to comfort her.  Poor little girl sounds seriously freaked out by the situation.  Force feeding isn't going to help, either.  Can you take her special treats or things like chicken or turkey baby food and try to hand feed her?  I very much hope she gets to come home tomorrow morning.

She has her favorite blanket with her, she nurses on it & kneads it cause it's fuzzy. I took my own cans of food & when I got there they said they tried feeding her science diet food, I told them I don't want her eating that & supposedly they wrote a note to only feed the food I brought. I opened up a can of just plain chicken & she wouldn't eat any of it. She's never done this. I have been freaked out by that & the peeing in her bed every since I heard about it. I went to another vet place & they said for the most parts, cats won't eat when they're in a kennel environment so they felt it was totally normal.

I will go back in a few hours & spend more time with her & get an update hopefully. It just sucks!

Not yet. I just got back from visiting her, she's eating now & peeing in the box & her blood work numbers haven't changed. I think they might ween her off the fluids today. Still don't know when she can come home, I do know this though, she hates it there!

It sounds like progress if she's eating and using her box.  It also sounds like she hasn't shown any active symptoms of lily toxicity yet.  Hopefully this means she is in no danger at this point.  I bet you can not wait to have her safe and sound at home again.

totally! That's exactly what the last Dr said, she's not showing any signs & because she's so active, she thinks she's going to be just fine. The Dr also went through it, she said after about 12 hours, her kitty went into medical distress, I don't know what that means but that's what she said. They gave her fluids for 3 days & her kitty is fine now. I think I might get Gypsy back today, not sure though, haven't talked to anyone. They pretty much keep you in the dark til something happens.

The Dr just called & instead of sending her home after 48 hours of fluid therapy, she wants to keep her for 3 days. She said it was my decision to take or leave her. She said that the high fluid could mask a kidney problem so they weened her down to "maintenance" & then will check in another 24 hours & then if the kidneys stay the same, I can take her home. I told her I guess it's best to be safe than sorry, but another day in the hospital? ugggg. I don't want to see the bill. Thank goodness for care credit!

Well, I'd probably make the same decision to leave her the extra day, but the cost....ouch.  Still, it's worth it if she's okay.   I have to admit, I'll be very surprised at this point if she's not okay.   If you hadn't gotten her in to the vet so fast, who knows what might have happened, though.  Anyway, I'm very optimistic this will have a good outcome.

Yeah I was totally optimistic til I found this http://www.vethelpdirect.com/vetblog/lily-poisoning-in-cats

It's basically people posting their experiences. I did a search for 72 hour fluid & this came up.

One story says the cat was on fluids for 72 hours & then once they weened it down, the levels started increasing & then the cat had to be in the hospital for like 6 days! I've been praying like crazy, it's totally out of my hands. All I want is for her to be ok, whether it takes 3 days or a week. I only care about her health.

Boy, that's really a sobering article. It does look like the cats who survived were ones like yours where they were raced to the hospital before symptoms began and put on fluids immediately.   Most of them only needed 48 hrs to 72 hrs of fluids and then came home, so try to think positive.   Always easy to say, hard to do - I know, especially when there are these horror stories out there.

I hope that your kitty gets out of this quick with no adverse results.
Please have enough rest for yourself. I know you are anxious over the matter, so are we but your health is important too. So please take care. ;)

Yes she's sitting on my lap as I'm typing this. SO glad to have her home, I'm following her everywhere though because the house is full of plants & I want to make sure she will leave them alone. She went potty, hasn't eaten yet. Both cats are hissing at her (of course). I would love to give her a bath but don't want to stress her out anymore. She peed in her bedding from what I understand & just want to wash off the hospital smell from her. All in good time though.

I'll probably get her urine & blood tested in a couple weeks, just to make sure she doesn't have any lasting kidney damage.
