Thank you! I usually try to adopt since there are always so many in shelters. Around here the old cats (5+ years) and kittens are usually the first to get euthinized so when we look for kitties we go for those first.

Kittens are the first to get euthanize? I don't get it [emoji]128546[/emoji] These are not non-E shelters?

You are doing a great job! Keep it up [emoji]128077[/emoji][emoji]127995[/emoji]

Yeah it's pretty messed up. There's always a high volume of animal's in the shelter here and it's a fairly small city with the closest larger city being about 45 mintues away. They try to keep them as long as possible and according to my BIL they only us E as a last resort but it still happens i guess. I feel like i made it sound like they're just putting down kittens left and right and that's not the case so i thought i would clarify.

Don't they have adoption drives. Thought that would be good and the public can be educated in that sense and bring awareness to the community and more kittens and cats will be saved rather than going out on the easy way of euthanizing.

I don't know. I've never seen any here. They might take some to the bigger cities bit they're pretty far away so i don't know. We've only adopted Lurk through the shelter in this town (the others we've had were strays) so i can't say for sure one way or the other. The other places I've lived in and adopted did that but that's not here so idk.

Our cat was a shelter cat at the RSPCA, his name was pooh bear, but RSPCA shortened to bear. We kept the name as we liked it. We know understand why they called him pooh bear because he was overweight, and cuddly, but also very food driven, he is always looking for food. He is also big and sits up all proud of himself. And when he sits at the back of his head he looks like a bear lol.

Hecate is the goddess of magic, crossroads, ghosts, and necromancy. She's the black cat in my avatar. My boyfriend pondered for nearly a day on what to name her. Hades is the God of the underworld... Or in his case, the Undercouch. His name was to go with Hecate's.

Just FYI, @TabbyTom, neonatal and unweaned kittens require feeding very frequently -- as much as every 2 hours, around the clock -- and stimulation to eliminate.  They must be monitored very carefully as to temperature, too.  That is why the high attrition rate for kittens.  Fosters are lifegiving because they do these jobs.  Otherwise, there is no one to do them in most shelters/ACC's.  Horrendous, but that's the reality.  Fosters are heroes!

I foster kittens and late last year I took in two 5 week old kittens with ringworm that were feral.  One was a brown tabby - a hissy, spitty boy and one was a grey tabby that was a bit more accepting of the situation.  Frankly, the brown hissy boy scared me with his his spitting at me!  We named them Ruff and the more ready one Reddy because Ruff was, well, rough!, and Reddy was ready for love.  I socialized them, treated the ringworm and socialized them and got them adopted out as Christmas kittens on Christmas eve.  7 weeks later they were returned to the shelter because they were "too rambunctious"!  I was floored!  Goodness, I told my husband, they are freakin' kittens!  He said "let's adopt them!".  Ruff and Reddy and now 11 months old and the sweetest boys you've ever met!  I adore these sweet boys!  The first picture was taken shortly after they were ready for handling.  The second picture was taken the day I brought them home to stay!
