We have a 7 month baby and a 3yr old ragdoll.

The cat is very vocal and has started bursting in and meowing as I'm putting the bang down to nap. Which wakes the baby I'm army wits end!!!

I've tried
1) shutting him downstairs- he goes nuts
2) closing that door to the room and he scratches to get in
3) suggesting a companion but partner won't even consider it
3) playing with the cat when the baby plays
4) extra cuddles

I'm sure the cat is just saying hello abs is used to getting all of the attention but I need a solution as I'm going crazy. Baby napping is so important and the cat just makes the whole process unbearable!!

Any suggestions?

Welcome to the Catsite :wavey:

As cats being cats, they are inquisitive and full of curiosity.
Restricting your cat to something is not easy but it can work.

Let your cat get use to the baby when you are in the room, when your baby is not sleeping. If he starts to meow, tell him baby is here and baby needs to sleep. Just say 'quiet' or 'shhh'. Let your cat get use to these few lines.
Once your cat get use to you and baby in the room without bashing in, he'll know that he must not meow. It doesn't work overnight, but after a few times over some days, he'll get the idea.
Your kitty wants to be near you too and therefore when you close the room door, he'll bash in and call you by meowing.
My boy use to do that whenever our doors are closed and he'll meow to get in. So I let him go into rooms without chasing him out and once he got use to the things on the rooms, he dose 't seem very interested to go in because he has gotten use to it that if I go in, I'll come out again.
So please give some time for him to get use to what you have to do and talk to him in a nice way with a nice voice.
Hope this works for you ;)

Thanks so much. Really appreciate the help, glad I found this forum!!

We already spend a lot of time in there with both of them - baby is in the bedroom with us and the cat often sleeps on our bed.

It's like he announces his arrival into rooms but more so as I'm settling the baby. I just can't carry on having every nap effected by this, every time he meows our baby wakes up and isn't a great sleeper anyway [emoji]128577[/emoji] I'm exhausted. I knew ragdolls a were high maintenance but no idea he'd be this demanding!!

You are welcomed [emoji]128515[/emoji]

Just include your kitty in things you do. Once he gets use to your routine, it automatically be the same for him.
Like my boy, he is a customs officer in our house. He'll inspect every bag when we come back :lol3: So we let him go through the bags and he'll do a quick inspection and leave us alone. And when we eat, he'll like to smell the food and so we let him do that, but of course we don't let him eat. We just tell him smell will do or if it's hot soup, we'll say it's hot and after smelling, he just go on his way to do his own things like playing with his toys or just lay near us and watch us eat. He dosen't bug us to feed him because he knows those are not his food.
So with patience and love, your kitty can be trained to listen to commands and hand gestures. But of course, sometimes we are secretly trained by him :lol3:
