Hi all! new to the site, didn't think my first post would be about ringworm but I adopted a kitten about 7 weeks ago from a rescue and two weeks after getting her "I" developed ringworm. never had it, work in public health in the gym 7 days a week. several of my clients are nurses so when they saw the posting on Facebook they're the ones who suggested the cat probably has it because they knew I had a new kitten. read up on it, a lot of the cleaning I did likeb a pets obsessed for ,week 1, then honestly just kind of slacked off due to time. slthought we were through. she's had no visible lesions at all. took her to the vet when I first got it. rather than the lime sulfur dip she opted to just give her a course of oral miconazole. she compunded it for her weight. finished that and thought we were done. still not convinced I got it from her. but I had two more spots pop up on me still no signs of it on her. I know the backlight etc, scaling, that might not prove anything. I guess my question is I bought a new vacuum with a bag. I've seen people suggestions about the miele but I can't afford that kind of a vacuum. so I bought a "cheaper" bagged vacuum which I will toss when I'm done. so vacuuming the furniture every day, floors, mopping the floors every other day I mean I don't know what else to do. I have a brand new shagbrug that I bought 3 months ago. do I need to throw that out because I really can't afford to be tossing stuff. it's not a big apartment and it's not an apartment with doors where I can isolate her. she's had run of the apartment since I got her and basically still does. If I stick her in the bathroom my bathroom is a closet. and I think at this point it would be pointless because she's already been all over everything. can't bleach some furniture but I've been doing a one-to-ten solution and use it on hard surfaces, on the floors, took all the blinds down and washed them all today in bleach and laundry soap and put everything back up. Didn't think abt the bed skirt. have big white towels on the sofa that i can toss in bleach everyday. I mean, if I just keep on this way should I anticipate that will stop? I'm going to take her back to the vet this week and maybe just start the lime sulfur dips. any other suggestions that haven't been posted and I know there's a lot of comprehensive information on here, would be appreciated because it does feel like fighting a losing battle and same as other people have said I want to cuddle with her she sleeps with me and and I'm just like " agh! go away!"

Hi there! Welcome! Sorry to hear that you're having to deal with this. How are you treating your own ringworm spots? Did the spots correspond with places where she had scratched you or anything like that? Did your vet do a ringworm culture on your kitty? What were the results? Did your doctor or your vet suggest the cleaning or did you decide to start based on your own research? Would you say your immune system is generally pretty good, or not?

If I were in your shoes, just one human and one cat in an apartment, I wouldn't worry too much about the crazy cleaning at this point. Try to not stress out over this yourself, and try not to stress out your kitten. Use common sense (keep your own spots covered and treat them aggressively) but I can't see any reason to not pet and cuddle your kitten.

Hi Suzanne!
No culture as the cat did not have, and still doesn't, any visible lesions. The first spot was on my inner thigh, and yes, there was a scratch dead center. The new ones are honestly, on my bikini line. The cleaning is my idea based on research and trying to balance the extreme with something reasonable. My immune system is excellent! I have worked in community health and now child welfare, never pink eye, ringworm, scabies, and have been exposed to all of it multiple times. Like I said, I could have picked it up elsewhere, who knows. I'm calmer today and I'm not throwing anything else out, except the old vacuum. I think bagged is better anyway and the new onevwas a decent one on cheap close out. Fingers crossed and just doing a lot of laundry!!
Thanks for the encouragement. She was on my head this morning, lol.

When my George had ringworm last fall, I was hysterical for the first few days, convinced that my whole household would get it and just pass it back and forth forever. It actually ended up not being that big a deal for us. We treated George aggressively, but that was about the only thing we did "right" according to the stuff I read online. So many things about ringworm just don't make sense to me. It's maddening to fight this invisible enemy without having any proof that your efforts are helping. My advice to you would just be to treat your own lesions aggressively, like I said before - but don't let treatment protocols ruin your life or or your kitten's life. Good luck. :-)

BTW, I threw away a nice (though not new) rug while fighting George's ringworm. I miss that rug now and wish I'd kept it. [emoji]128578[/emoji]

Hello everyone. I fostered 3 kittens at work this summer (in a grooming shop) and unbenounced to me they all had ringworm. I've never seen it before and didn't know what it was to begin with. Since that time I drug it home to my two cats at home who have been in seclusion for 10 weeks now, the other cats at the grooming shop are being tested with the ten-day fungal test as we speak. everybody is on thier 2nd round of oral medication, ointment and lime sulfur dips. Needless to say after almost 3 months of this I'm about to drop with exhaustion and all the money I've spent. My question is, has anyone had an experience where the cats actually got a cyst like bump on them or flaking skin almost like a sunburn that's peeling? My one cat got a bump above his eye that was there for about a week but now seems to be going away. There is a spot over that bump that may have some hair loss it kind of looks like a cowlick. Also, one cats at work and one cat at home have lost hair on their ears and the skin is flaky. I can't get the vet to answer me whether that is possibly symptom of ringworm or reaction to miconazole appointment. Waiting for the test results but just wondering if anyone else had that experience
