My cat delivered a stillborn kitten last night at 7:30pm and still has not delivered the rest of kittens!!! I'm assuming they are all still born as well!!! I believe she has atleast 2 in there!!! She is doing just fine, not stressed, acting quite normal, just basically shutting down this whole labor process!!! Has anyone have this happen!!!! Looks like a c section will be happening on Monday!!!

I know much more experienced people will answer you very soon!

7 days ago (my only experience, so please take others advice) I had a stray pregnant cat adopt me and have babies in my garage.  She had two kittens and I swear I felt two more lumps inside of her.  I called the vets after hours number and their advice to me was that if she was not showing any signs of visible trouble (not eating or drinking, panting for a long period, breathing heavy for a long period, foul odor, restless, bleeding, high temp, etc.) to wait it out a couple of days.  She also told me it was not uncommon for a cat to have interrupted labor for hours or sometimes a couple of days (which I found REALLY crazy) if the first babies were premature; but mine were healthy and seemed right on time.  The lumps were gone by Monday morning, 48 hours later.

Also, because this was my first pregnant cat experience I researched a bunch on what "could" go wrong.  I am not positive it would work but there are a ton of articles and research that says if a kitten is born seemingly lifeless, some have shown to be revived up to 30 minutes after being born by warming them up and massaging them in a soft towel. One of the articles I can remember, there were several, was this one: http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=1+2139&aid=895 but it seems to have old resources attached to it so there may be better information out there now.

This all being said I do not discourage vet visits at the earliest you can...they can put your mind at ease or help in a bad situation.  I hope everything works out and my thoughts are with you.  Mine is a new addition and I was stressed to the max for days monitoring her.

Again, I am not expert and I will not pretend to be one..there are much more experienced cat owners on here that will help you more I know; I just want to give as much support as I can.

As earlier poster hinted, be vigilant, but you can wait and see, as she is entirely OK.   The question is, if the other kittens are dead for real, or if they are alive but you cant feel them move.  When they are in the birthing postition, they arent as movable as they were before, so its easy to miss them move if you are new to this..

Good you can consult your vet on monday, and let him decide what to do.  There are several ways -

wait a little more if the kittens are alive - because you dont want to take out alive kittens too early - kittens unlike human babies, dont manage well premature deliveries.

With a human mom the choice is easy: if unsure, you take the baby out, if the acting surgeon  is any decent.  But this may be death sentencey for kittens, so its much more touchy.

The vet can give an injection with hormones, inducing the labor.

And the vet may do a cesarean including a spaying.  As she should be spayed anyway, this may be the best solution, esp if the kittens ARE dead, and there is no need to nurse them....

Moms can usually nurse kittens after a spaying, but this is uncomortable, and we do avoid it, unless in crash emergencies.

Lets hope for the best, and please continue to report now and then, even if nothing much happens.

Good luck!

Do not assume that her other kittens are dead. Labor can be interrupted for hours or even days, and the remaining kittens can be born safely and healthy. If mom is not in distress things should be fine.

There is no reason for a c-section. You would first get an ultrasound or x-ray to see how many, if any, kittens are inside her. Then you ask for a shot of pitocin to stimulate labor. A c-section is only necessary in an emergency.

Was the stillborn kitten fully formed?

I was not there when the first one was born my niece was who is 18, she thought for the most part it was fully developed but was not for certain, with that being said 8 days has gone by, and no change in her, she's a happy cat, and to me does not seem to be getting bigger, however her nipples are still prominent, but I think at this point she only had that 1 kitten in there..

If she is no longer pregnant, her nipples should return to normal within a couple of weeks from when she delivered the kitten. If they do not, she may still be pregnant, and you may want to have her checked by a vet.
