I think Sugar may be half blind. How can I check?

She has always seemed a bit clumsy which was cute. She runs into things when she's doing an around the house gallop. When we're playing fetch, and this is when it's most noticeable, she can't find her elephant unless she's watching where I throw. If it turns out she has lousy eyesight, any hints please?

She's due for her vacs in a few weeks so she'll get a good check out at the vet's.  I'm just curious and too impatient to wait.

Not sure how to judge if she has poor eyesight, but to see if she has any eyesight at all you could see her pupils respond to light.  Also, see if she follows your your arms or anything that moves.

The Vet will be able to tell you at her exam, I think.  If she is blind, then she will join other blind cats around here and get along just fine.  cats adjust better than humans.  Just dont' rearrange furniture on her, or leave cabinet doors open, that sort of thing.  Talk to her so she knows where you are, use toys with bells in them, etc.

Here's an inspirational thread about Jenny, one of our "resident" blind cats"  http://www.thecatsite.com/t/270218/my-blind-from-birth-cat-jenny-does-amazing-things

Thank you for your reply. I know she has some eye sight but now that you mention it, she often runs into the fridge door if she's running past me just after I've opened it. And she hates change. She threw a hissy fit when I moved the tower.  She has been known to run into new or rearranged objects so I suppose I'll need to keep that in mind now. Until recently, in the post Spike era, it wasn't as noticeable but it has been more obvious when we compare the two of them in motion.

I took in a blind, declawed, neglected, 12 year old Persian last year. She is now 13 years old. You can PM me if you need info.
